| I thought I saw this posted somewhere, but can't seem to locate it. This was listed on E-bay recently, and I'm a little curious as to what it is. The label says Ovation Special Guitar and Model 1617-5S is penciled in on the label. They are saying it is a 1981, but I haven't checked the S.N. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? |

| Been discussed twice now in the For Sale section, most recently here . The general consensus is that the 5S refers to a prototype finish (black sunburst). I've seen it listed 3 times now in the last month, the last 2 times for 1-day only auctions with a higher reserve each time. Nobody seems to know much else. |

| Just now checked it, originally went for $465 but buyer apparently backed out because of high overseas shipping costs. Last 2 times it failed to meet reserve at $315 and $325. |

| Hey g8r, wonder what a fair price would be for that. Basically a Legend with a darker sunburst, I guess. They say it is a 1981, but the serial number dates it to 1975. I think that would eliminate the possibility of it having the A-bracing. Correct? |

| Someone said the "serial #" was actually the manufacture date (June 16 1981) since this is basically a one-off proto, hence the handwritten label. That and the lack of a truss rod cover means it's got a K-bar neck, so it's almost certainly an '81, since a mid-'70s vintage would have had the traditional truss rod and TRC. That would probably mean A-bracing as well.
No one that I know has asked the seller about electronics, 'tho. That could affect the value. Still, it seems in good shape, so I don't think $465 is a bad price for a truly unique deep bowl Legend.
Maybe Beal remembers something about this one? |

| I forgot, Beal's at the Frickin' Mermaid tonight. He probably won't see this. I'll ask him this weekend. |

| It\'s
baaaaack if anybody's interested. This time with $500 BIN, bet $450 would meet reserve. |

| It might sell this time...I don't have an ebay store, so I'm curious why he runs 24 hours auctions. He can change his selling price more often, but does it cost him more fees or no?... This would be a unique Ovation to own, especially for the condition. I have a '92 Legend, I wonder if the bracings and neck are the same.. |
