Location: Ft Collins, CO | Hello . . . for reasons that perhaps only the members of this website can understand I have always had a soft spot for the curved guitar. Perhaps it's the shape or maybe the neck or maybe the fact that at one time or another many of my musical heroes played Ovations . . . starting with Glen Campbell. I recently acquired an '82 Glen Campbell 1627. Seems to play well and sounds fine both straight and amped. There is NO truss rod cover however. The pictures of the 1627-GC & 1127-GC I've seen all show a signature truss rod cover. I actually traded what I think was an '85 Balladeer of some sort for it. Much of the ID markers were gone and something was funky with the headstock there as well . . . no truss rod cover.
So is it common for people to just swap out this Ovation neck on that Ovation body . . . . sorta like a clipped car??? Is that done? The info on this guitar all add up as far as the bowl is concerned but, like I said, there is no truss rod cover . . . nor a need for one. Can someone perhaps explain this?
Thanks,
Mike |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Many Ovations have a "Kaman Bar" neck, which does not have a Truss-Rod Cover.
The truss-rod is adjusted from inside the body of the guitar.
Some pics of Kaman Bars...

Location: Ft Collins, CO | Thanks for the insight Old Man Arthur . . . the lower picture is the layout of both the GC-1627 and Balladeer I mentioned. |
