| So I want to get a new black pickguard for my breadwinner. I'm not sure how many plies there are but it looks like it is black/white/black. I can't find one the same as mine. Does anyone know how many different styles there were? Early ones had the toroidinal (sp?) single coil pickups with the input jack on the inside back lower curve of the body. Later ones had the smaller pickups with the jack on the pickguard. Mine is right in the middle! I have the single coil pickups and the jack mounted on the pickguard. So my pickguard has 2 large pickup holes, volume, tone, pickup selector, phasing switch and the input jack hole. Where do I find one of those? |

Location: Utah | This place may be able to help you. They may be able to work from a tracing of your current pickguard if they don't have the correct pattern already.

The single coils on my Deacon have the same dimensions as the humbuckers in my daughters Preacher Deluxe.
What single coils and what humbuckers? The early, big toroidal Ovation single coils are roughly (exactly?) the size of a standard Gibson humbucker but with a 3-point mount. The later, smaller Ovation humbuckers are slightly different in size than a Gibson mini-humbucker.
But if it's a Limited Edition Woodified Deacon, you might have any size or shape.

I used calipers to measure the length and width of the pups and they are identical, though the humbuckers sure appear to be wider. I did not measure the depth of any of them.

Yes, all those are essentially the same size, and the UKII rail pickups too. But I think the self-styled Butcher of Bremerton put those Viper single-coils in the Deacon.
The factory single-coils on an early Breadwinner or Deacon were the great big "toroidal" pickups that are closer to the size of a standard Gibson humbucker. Here's a small picture I found on the site:

Location: NW Washington State | I see that smmjbarney posted his pic before I finished my post. Those are the early toroidal pickups. Maybe Mr Ovation (Miles) has a PG for you, or one of the suppliers has the correct template.
Looks like you'll need some preamp work too!

Location: Upper Left USA | Yes, the Butcher used Viper pickups and Shadow Piezo saddles on that Deaconstein.
The websites numbfingers listed are a good bet. Way more accurate than anything I slice up. |

| My buddy tried to get one thru wd. They sent the one with the smaller pickup holes. We sent it back and he called and explained what we needed. They sent the same one. Guess I will have to do a tracing and send it out. I just wanted to see if anyone had a NOS one laying around(I know, good luck with that). GPC has them also on amazon and the pickup holes look right but the control holes are screwed up. E-mailed them and no reply. I sent an email to the guy that has the breadwinner fan page on the internet. He says he has parts but I have not heard anything back. I think his name is Sam Stathakis. Anybody know who he is?

| I've had very good service from Pickguardian. I was putting a Viper back together and they've stepped up to the plate on a truss rod cover, and pickguard. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I think Sam used to be a regular on this board. He had quite a collection. Mr. Ovation has had NOS pickguards for Ultra GSs for sale on ebay. Contact him directly and see if he has one for your Breadwinner. |
