Not really (on both counts). It's not because of the extra surface area under the strings, it's because the bridge is placed in an area of the top that is less restrictive to vibration. If you moved the bridge all the way to the end pin you'd have still more surface area 'under the strings', but get virtually no top vibration. And then you'd have a 6 fretter. Perfect for Moody, not so much for the rest of us.

Soon as the last two get here they are presold and I will have enough money to buy this Koa O. Happy happy happy!!! I spoke too soon dammit. Man I wanted that guitar!!! My crewcab F250 beast diesel truck is going to need around $1500 worth of parts then labor on top of that to address a few issues to guarantee me an additional 200,000 miles out of it for towing my RV. I've inventoried my possessions to see what else I could sell to raise the money. My minimalist existence leaves me coming up short by half. I may have to consider a loan to buy it but that's doubtful. We are helping my daughter and her husband make a down payment on a house so I'm forbidden from touching the savings account. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got til it's gone!

I've inventoried my possessions to see what else I could sell to raise the money. My minimalist existence leaves me coming up short by half...(enter life event & remorse here)... I know how you feel. I ordered 12/12 of Al's 12-fret Koa run. She is a stellar guitar! After silently following your Conant Quest and your yearning for this 12-fret Prototype, I want to help you acquire it before it's gone. Just send me the half of the funds you currently have. I'll send Al the 2K for you and Al can ship her over to me in SoCal. When you put together the other half, I'll either ship or drive her over to you.

Remember when "minimalist existence" DIDN'T include a big diesel pickup, an RV, and 3 guitars? You might consider putting the Allman Brothers blow up doll collection on Ebay....
