Joined: July 2014 Posts: 28 | I am looking to sell a recently acquired Ovation 1124-4 late 1971 Country Artist in minty condition, it does not look to have ever been played much and has two original owners from Connecticut. I am the third owner as of June of this year. It comes with the original manual and brown Ovation case that are both in great shape. The nut measures just under 1 7/8 with my digital caliper. I considered adapting the guitar with an aftermarket pickup system but decided to forgo that idea to keep it original. I found that with my neuropathy in my hands that I am better off with a narrower neck style with a narrower nut. Smaller bodied steel string guitars like 00 and OOO and OM may be a better fit for my hands (nut 1 3/4 or less) so a trade would be a real possibility. This guitar has no finish cracks or scuffs that stand out, probably very minor issues if one looked at it carefully. Super clean for an instrument that about 43 years old. The action is real comfortable. This guitar has a non-typical neck block stamp of 76XX that Ovation just estimated a build date of late 1971 and handwritten, dated notes that back that up in the rear of the owner's manual. I am asking $1200 plus shipping and will include a new, unused, unopened set of normal tension D'Addario EJ45FF fluorocarbon strings (trebles). The guitar has a fairly recent set of D'Addario EJ45 nylon strings that were removed and returned to it's sleeve; included as well so the guitar is unstrung. Hope I am not out of line with pricing; I inquired about an almost identical guitar that sold in the UK for over 1200 euros = $1660 and that guitar has some issues with reworked upper bout binding. Please let me know if you have any interest in the guitar, thanks. Ron

The one I have has to be one of the first 1124-4 Country Artists with an unusual neck block stamp, original dated owner's manual and original brown Ovation case. This was verified by Ovation in Bloomfield in a recent email. The neck stamp sets this one apart and it is in beautiful condition; looks fantastic for 43 years old. The price I set is certainly negotiable; I'd actually rather trade it to someone that had a smaller bodied, easy playing steel string from a known quality USA maker. Don't be afraid to have a look once I get the technique of adding pics figured out; the OFC FAQ section spells it all out, I just have to find time to do it. Joined: July 2014 Posts: 28 | OK, my thread seems to have stalled. Surely there is interest out there for a superb original Ovation 1124 Country Artist! With original case in great shape and original owner's manual dating the guitar as having been sold in mid January of 1972. Since I had little to go on regarding the current value of this guitar, I believe that an asking price of $750 is probably more in line with everyone's expectations. I changed the price once I saw what a similar guitar sold for on the 'Bay yesterday (8-3-14). I am STILL open to a trade for a smaller bodied all wood guitar that has a narrower nut and narrower fretboard and plays easy like this Country Artist. I am in the upstate of SC if someone wanted to get together; thanks. Ron Edited by rcartlidge 2014-08-04 9:54 AM

But Ovations overseas tend to go for 2-3 times what they go for in the states (sometimes more than that) because they are hard to get. Here's somebody on ebay who is selling an acoustic electric Country Artist that has gotten no bids http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ovation-Acoustic-Electric-Nylon-String-Guit... . Just a thought.......

Joined: July 2014 Posts: 28 | I appreciate the insight on foreign sales of Ovation guitars. As I mentioned previously, I am open to offers that are reasonable and I would actually prefer a trade for a clean, American made 00, 000 or OM guitar. Based on the recent 'Bay sale of the 1974 (listed as 1969) Country Artist, I feel comfortable asking $750 and open to offers from serious buyers; thanks. Joined: July 2014 Posts: 28 | I want to propose a firm sale price of $495 plus shipping for sale of 1971 Ovation Country Artist 1124-4 nylon string guitar w/ original case. Anyone interested please contact me, thanks, read all messages relating to the instrument. I'd bump this to the top (if allowed) but am not sure how to do that.
