Wow am I impressed with the info on this site.
I just purchased my first Ovation guitar. It is a satin finish (spruce top? not sure?) model S778 s/n 555527 made in USA.

It was from a pawn shop so it has a few problems and I may have paid to much. I had never played an Ovation before and when I picked it up and played it a little I had to have it. What a sweet sound!

It has the OP24+ electronics and is missing a couple of knobs. Also has a small piece of wood missing from the sound hole decoration.... I didn't notice that until i got it home. The action on this guitar is a little higher than I like. I cleaned the guitar up a bit and I put a new set of 0.12 gauge Elixir polyweb strings on it and while doing that I gently lifted up the saddle and found the pickup is part of the saddle. The neck is in good shape just checking via strings depressed at fret 1 and 14.

So my first questions are....
Is there a process to lower the saddle height? On other guitars I was able to just sand down the saddle or remove shims. So this is a new adventure for me.
Is there and Ovation parts place where I could buy the 2 missing equalizer knobs for the OP 24+?

Hi Larry,

If you've looked under the pickup assembly and there are no shims, there's not much that can be done other than a neck reset or some have been successful with a 'bowl bend'

I'd return the thing if possible. There are lots out there for reasonable prices.

Hi Damon67
Thanks for the response.
The action is not that bad just a little higher than I like. I didn't remove the saddle completely. Just enough to see the pickup was attached. Never having seen this before I stopped. I have an Ibanez that sanded down the saddle and the pick up just lying under the saddle.

So I guess I need to pull the plug in the back of the bowl to get the saddle completely out of the bridge without damaging any thing?

Again thanks
Larry

The bridge should come out easily with the strings off. Probably don't even need to open the manhole

I finally got serious about adjusting the action. A piece of cake However I got it a little to low with a few buzzing frets. I have put a shim back.
Thanks for the help.
