Last jam a fellow showed up with a Balladeer and created something of a stir...after all...bluegrass is home of the dreadnought guitar usually. I liked the sound and started looking around for something similar to take myself. My Ovation 1983 Collector's Edition in pretty weak acoustically so it stayed home. I had been asking everybody I know to keep an eye open for something for me and a lady at my church called me and offered me her husband's Ovation. He passed away about 10 years ago and it has been sitting in a back room in its case since then.I play in the worship band at church and she said that if I would like to use it in that band then the Ovation was mine.It was a deal I could not refuse. I opened the case and found a deep bowl, spruce top, 12 fret slothead Ovation. It is a folklore model I think. I put a fresh set of strings on it and took it to the Bluegrass Jam. Several folks commented on it's bright and cutting tone...it just flat cuts through the din with its' own signature sound! The neck plays like a dream and that guitar just flat PROJECTS the sound out there. Ovations just have to be about the best kept secret in music these days and that is fine by me. I now have another keeper for my collection of guitars and a new guitar to play at church. The lady that gave me this fine guitar will enjoy its fine sound for a long time to come every Sunday when our little worship band plays. Bob

My Folklore is one of my favorites, but I had to pay for mine. You're starting to make me jealous, Bob. Better bring them all up to Miles' for the July 4 gig.

The lady that gave me this guitar is a treasured member of our little church and we all knew and loved her late husband. He was a heck of a guitar player and always had time to show me a new lick or two and help me learn a bit more about guitar playing. I am looking forward to letting this guitar breath a bit and make some great sounds...after all....it has been sitting in its case for at least 10 years. I have my humidifier in there now with it and see if the wood will enjoy a bit of humidity. I thank each of you for your knowledge about these great guitars and your willingness to share it. Thanks again....Bob Oh yes...I indeed live in the foothills of Mt. Rainier out in the boonies. Mostly quiet and peaceful...today we have snow and wind and rain and it is about 30 degrees outside. I drive for about an hour to get to people...it is fairly remote.

When I played my Folklore at an outdoor picnic and my wife thought the guitar was a little louder than some of my other guitars. They do cut through the mix. You should hear Trader Jim's FD.

I have never taken a photo of my guitars but will ask one of the digital camera nuts I know if they will do the deed for me. Mark...there is a 83 Collectors Edition at Bernunzio Vintage Instuments if you are still looking. I have always admired Ovation guitars and now that I have a couple and I am playing them all I can say is WOW...so nice. Thankyou all for your advice and help. It means alot. Bob

Joined: December 2007 Posts: 45 Location: Foothills of Mt. Rainier | You Know, The 12 fret Ovations are great! They are punchy and bright with loads of tone and cut like a razor. I have played mine alot today and it just seems to get better....probably has to as it has sat in it's case for about 10 years and is happy to get out and breathe. My 83 Collector Edition is kinda of choked up with it's shallow body but it has many shades of tone when it is plugged into my Roland amp...slip in a bit of reverb and delay and it is so nice. I just play at church and at the Senior Center but by golly I sure have a good time...hope all of the other Ovation folks do to. All my best, Bob
