Gotta say though... I think that's the highest saddle I've ever seen on an O! No problems with break angle there! Edited by dvd 2014-06-05 10:41 PM

I don't think there's any harm in getting a couple of #2 x 3/4" machine screws installed to get it back to "premorbid" levels. Countersink the holes, so you can put some pearl dots over the screws. You will want to reglue the bridge, with a couple of clamps, & the adhesive of your choice, before you screw it up.

The first thing I did was detune it. The funny thing is It is solidly on there, does not flex or more. There repair shop I took it to say it cant be glued as it sits because it has warped into place. It needs to come off, be planed down flat and then re-glued. I guess if I could find a deal on a replacement bridge i could heat up the old one remove it and glue in the new one. The saddle is pretty high but the action before detuning was actually pretty good. Let know if there are any bridges out there.

Surely if there is a bow in it, it can be taken out. Many years ago, I had a beautiful Elite LX and I heard this God awful noise, like it had fallen from the ceiling...the bridge had flown off...it looked terrible. A luthier in Dallas fixed it and there was no way you could tell it had ever exploded.

Although he didn't do it, he does suggest to first put on a low-tack tape (painter's tape) to protect the finish. If it were mine... I'd follow that suggestion!!!

Ovation-style bridges can be ordered fairly cheaply from AllParts.com or via eBay... http://www.allparts.com/GB-2866-0R0-Acoustic-Top-Loading-Bridge_p_1... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acoustic-Guitar-Wood-Bridge-Tailpiece-No-Pi... An alternative to planing is to use a narrow scraper to scrape the glue off and smooth the top wood in preparation for gluing the new one down. Edited by DanSavage 2014-06-06 4:21 PM

Acoustic bridge removal... Yep. That's about the only way to do it. Because the Ovation bridges are glued on with epoxy, you'll have to use a hot knife, like what's show in the video, or some other method that heats up the bridge to soften the glue. A lot of luthier tape aluminum foil down to the top around the bridge to act like a heat shield, then apply the iron directly to the bridge to heat it and melt the glue underneath. Epoxy will start to soften at ~170 degrees, so if you set the iron to wool or cotten, it should soften the glue without melting the finish.

This caused the glue to melt and the bridge to come loose. The best glue to use for this repair would be hot hide glue (HHG) which does not come loose, even when left in a hot car. I notice you're in Burbank. I have the set-up to glue stuff like this using HHG. When you're ready to glue the bridge, you're welcome to come on down to South Orange County and I'll help you glue it.

Yes with no tension the gap stays. The bridge itself is warped. The gap is only in the middle back and not on the sides at all. If you look from the top or bottom you can see a curve in the bridge. I will take a picture at that angle and post it.

We're all bozos on the same bus, essentially, & it's an hour's drive. AND, it appears Dan knows what he's doing.
