I've got a wood topped Adamas right now on ebay AS-NEW priced $1300 below what a new one is going for and already $200. less than I paid for it. Not one bid, nibble, question, or offer. Nada

Seems like nothing is selling right now and not just guitars. I'm trying to sell my 1970 muscle car right now and I have it up online for dirt cheap and not a single call.. nothing. People are spending money on food and over priced gas to survive I guess. I can't sell my Viper for $600 and it's worth that all day long.

It was the brutal winter we had this year coupled with the skyrocketing cost of propane. People spent their "play money" on heat.

Well as long as they don't have to use their guitars for firewood it can't be all that bad ...

My personal feeling are I am now worried about spending on the high end guitars knowing that if an issue arises I may have to go to a local luthier, he has to retrofit, parts are (insert availability here) and its just not the guys who built it servicing it. Just got my first Adamas and am looking at others but just saying.
Regards

The good news is the fact that Ovations are very well made and are noted for longevity. They are impervious to conditions which would/could bring down a wood box guitar. Just don't drop them down any stairs or subject them to similar abuse and they will be good indefinitely. I for one am not a bit worried about the future of my Ovations and have no doubt whatsoever that someone will be enjoying them long after I have crossed that river.

My big worry now is bushfires. Before insurance would have paid for a replacement. Now I'll be running back into a burning house to make sure I've got them all.

A Co-worker started a conversation about how they are stocking up on ammo and dry goods for the impending collapse of civilization* and asked me what my plan was...

I said I would grab my Adamas and travel around singing songs, spreading news, basically begging for a meal and good company in lieu of trying to be the best armed target for the struggling masses.

I say the value is there and always will be.
None of us are getting rich now off of selling used Ovations. Eventually some of the protos and one offs will get recognition but I don't expect to see it.

*Civilization is what you bring to the picnic.

One of my concerns is that with all of this U.S. production going away, that the younger guitar playing generation is going to be of the mindset to stay away from Ovation US made guitars. Nice one's aren't cheap. We need these kids and younger adults to keep the brand, it's reputation alive and that it doesn't end up as pictures in history books. You can't put a price tag on reputation, customer service, and quality. Of course guys like us know how great these guitars are and how well built they are, if you take care of them they will last 30+ years or more. We all see the value, we hope their value will increase, I just hope this sentiment trickles down to the younger aspiring guitar players and they see and appreciate these fine guitars. Nothing ticks me off more than seeing an eBay ad with the statement of "the typical Ovation crack for a guitar this age." It's because you didn't care for it knucklehead. Anyway, I'm hoping value goes up of course and not down for the wrong reasons.

Well there will be no more Ovation US guitars, and and the younger generation will have little to no awareness of what they were, so I doubt they will stay away on purpose - it's just nature's way it will be. Plus they are exposed to the mighty marketing machines of other manufacturers.

OK, I'll finish it...
Two Taylor walk into a bar, one says to the other, "how was your show last night?" He replies, "just terrible, my tones were flat and just had not life. So the guy put me down and he got an 'Ovation'!" Da-dat crash!

Thanks you thank you, please genrosusly tip your servers.

Elderly Instruments currently has a used Adamas for sale at $2,700. I bought that same model brand new for pretty much the same price in 2009. It would appear that Elderly, at least, is banking on high quality used Ovations commanding handsome prices.
