While the 1868 Elite wasn't exactly what I was looking to get when I set out to get my first multi-sound holed Elite. I kind of wanted to get a nice mid to deep bowl or maybe a 6778, but then this one caught my eye and I kind of fell in love with it. I probably paid a bit too much for it ($550, but that includes hard case AND shipping).  As far as I'm concerned it seemed like a great buy for a nice USA-made older Elite model and a good entry price for me into the world of Elites and those uniquely Ovation sound holes.

To all the much more experienced buyers (and seller), please feel free to give it to me straight, "Yea, you paid way to much" or "You could have done better" or "Not bad" or whatever fits, because even though price DOES matter (hey, it's money after all and I don't think any of us here are so wealthy that money don't matter), but that price is more about what it's worth to you.  But... that said I'm still wanting to expand my personal knowledge on Ovation pricing and appreciate any and all comments.  Hey, it's my first Elite and I'm anxious to play this Ovation classic for the very first time.  It's due to arrive on Thursday, but I've got some pictures to show off until then (this is that second baby I mentioned that's coming home this week and prompted me to wait no more and get ANY humidifier to insure the proper care doesn't end with me).  Oh.... and just for the record this is NOT an eBay find, got it from a site more dedicated to fine musical instruments AND it's guaranteed crack-free. Imagine that!

Here's some pics:

I don't know about you, but I'm excited.

Those are nice guitars, and the price was fair. I bought one exactly like it years back, but I had plans for it. It's now my mandocello.

Hi, SLB,
Mike S. from Ottawa, (CANADA) here. You did very well. I love my 1990 Elite 1868-4, and I got it for half price, as in $900.00. CDN. The Elite had a MSRP of $1800.00 US at the time, and I got mine through an ad in the newspaper!(Remember newspapers? This was BEFORE THE INTERNET!) I got a good deal on my Elite because... are you ready for this? ... THE SELLER DIDN't WANT A NATURAL ONE!, as in. " I DON'T LIKE THE COLOUR. I LIKE BLACK." Every so often a real gem does show up at great price, and you hit the nail on the head. My Elite is showing its age a bit, because the winters here don't help, so I'm thinking sending it down to The MotherShip for my 60th birthday. But the sound is just tremendous, and it has a real vintage natural look to it, no aging toner required at all. if I had kids, mine would be a family heirloom, so keep up the good work.

You qot a sweet deal. I recently bought a used like new Ovation 1778 LX Elite in black. Cost $700 with the case, and well worth it. Probably the easiest guitar to play I've ever owned. And amplified through my Behringer UltraAcoustic 1800 it sings like an angel. Enjoy that new guitar!

That's just like mine. It's my favorite acoustic guitar I've ever owned, and the least expensive. I predict you will love it forever, making it a great deal. When I found mine on ebay I bid $550 for it. Fortunately I was the only bidder and got it for $299.
