OVATION FOLKLORE MODEL 1114

This is a hard to find Ovation Folklore 1114. The Kaman company made these in the mid '70s to the early '80s. The folk scene, wherein all the guitar players seemed to prefer 12 fret slotted headstock guitars kind of peaked in the early to mid '70s. Ovation got into the scene rather late. The competition seems to have been the Martin "S" series of 12 fretters. And they cost quite a bit more than the Ovation. This one has a beautiful aged spruce top with a deep bowl back.

The specs say it has a walnut bridge, however this one's bridge is black like the ebony fingerboard. It comes with high quality 3-per-side slotted headstock tuners. The 1114 was manufactured from 1972-1983. From the serial number this one was made in 1981. The guitar is nearly flawless, and now nearly 35 + years old. And it has that beautiful sound that only comes from an old, well seasoned spruce top.

I've paid for a current Blue Book evaluation of this guitar. They say in excellent condition it would sell for an average of $675 alone. (Ovation charged extra for the case.) This one is in nearly new condition. There are no structural issues, check the photos of the saddle height and 12th fret action. The neck is straight. The only small fault I can find is a slight lacquer crack as shown in the photo. This is common on old Ovations. The crack runs across the grain and is only in the lacquer. This is easily fixed if anyone would want to bother doing so. The wood itself has no cracks, splits or dings evident.

This one can be yours for $675 as per the Blue Book. For an extra $50 I’ll throw in a brand new Ovation $100+ hardshell case. Or if you want the ultimate, I have its 1970's near mint condition rare brown case and a very rare mint condition Ovation case cover. This option will add an additional $175. So for $850 you will get one of the rarest vintage Ovations with a like new 35 year old case and case cover! Expensive for an old Ovation? Probably, but come on now, it’s only money and it’s the guitar you’ve always wanted.

You buy this and you will own a one of a kind guitar that the Ovation Museum would envy. Careful packing and shipping in the lower 48 will be $40 West of the Mississippi, $30 East.

As far as I know, a case has always come with a brand new Ovation at no additional cost. 

So just to be clear, are you saying you want $675 and if the buyer wants any sort of case that's extra? There's nothing really wrong with that, though it's not the norm here and it should be made very clear if that is indeed the 'case' (pun intended).

OK folks, thanks for the enlightenment regarding cases for old Ovations. My buddy definitely got ripped having to pay extra for his brown case way back when. So if you want the Folklore guitar for $675 and don’t care for its original brown case, I’ll give the new black case to you with the guitar for FREE! All you pay is the shipping.

If you really want the all original, the brown case version will still add an additional $175. So for $850 you will get one of the rarest vintage Ovations with a like new 35 year old brown case and case cover! If the guitar sells with the black case, I’ll sell the brown case on eBay. I recently sold a 1964 mint Gibson case for a Country Western to someone in Japan for over $600. Neat thing is, I only had to ship it to California. Apparently a shipping company works with eBay to forward sold items to Japan.
