Instead of a single 1/4" output jack on the guitar, there is a little circuit board with both the 1/4" and XLR jacks. There is a different cable from the can to the outputs. You can upgrade the can and jacks by just installing those parts.

I've upgraded about ten guitars to the OP-Pro-series preamps and all cans had the connection for the XLR-unit. But there were two different XLR-units, one for the OP-Pro with phantom-power and the one for OP-Pro-Studio and VIP-5 without phantom-power. The only can (with 8 connectors inside) I know without the XLR port is from the iDea-preamp. It has a little jack for the AUX input. But the iDea works fine in all cans using the 1/4" jack for output and all preamps are working in the Idea-can, except of the OP-Pro. I don't know why, but mine does not work in the Idea-can. Just turn on the phantom power and you should be good to go. You may need to plug something into the 1/4" output jack as well. Any old mono 1/4" plug will do, it doesn't even need to be connected to a cable. I can't remember if the 1/4" plug is required for the Studio, it is required for the VIP unless you have an XLR cable with the correct pin soldered to the body of the plug. Al sells the correct XLR cable for this.

All others will work with a XLR cable if supported, but it will not feed the preamp. Bernie

Dieter Matt Smith says in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxSmU5e_VeI that OP-Pro Studio in a 2077LX IS phantom powered (its at the 3:27 mark), but then again he isn't using the XLR jack at all in demonstation video. So he is wrong then?

I've upgraded nearly all my "old" guitars (1614, 1615, 1624 and the 1627 I sold) to OP-Pro-Series preamps, all with XLR Units with Phantom.power, but only the Preamps I listed before are able to work with it.
