After months of searching, and looking at a lot of worn out equipment, I finally found a nice older "Artiist bowl". It is a 1979, 1127 Glen Campbell. Overall real nice condition for 35 years old. Has a few chips here and there, and a lot of pick rash, but seems structurally sound. The action was real high, but the neck was bowed way up, and the saddle was quite high, so I was able to adjust the truss rod, take out 3 of the 4 saddle shims, and the action is perfect. After a few hours of cleaning, polishing and set up, and new strings, it looks pretty good, and the sound is amazing... The sunburst finish on this model seems rare, all the ones I have found, and pictures I find are the lighter natural finish.

Dang, I either need to start hanging out with some of y'all or start looking under rocks and odd places myself. First it was that super sweet Elite II that danomyte "found" and now THIS?!?! I've quickly discovered that eBay is a horrible place to find old Ovations because everyone on there selling them keeps insisting that "all Ovations have these cracks in the top." Now I'm not near as experienced as most all of you are here, but I know enough and have seen enough to know that with the proper care even a 1970's era Ovation can be crack free and nearly as shiny and pretty as the day it first left Connecticut.

Why do so many people believe that it's "normal" for an old Ovation to have one, two, or even three cracks in it AND yet they still expect to get $700 or more for their cracked up Ovation?

It's very hopeful and refreshing to see one of these old beauties in such superb shape AND crack-free (imagine that, huh?)

Really nice one, I love GC's. A 1127 was the first Ovation I had the Chance to Play and I was blown away....
Enjoy it and have a lot of fun!!

Thanks all for the kind words, I am pretty happy with it so far.
SLB - you are correct about the ebay finds, most are worn out and still expensive.... I found this one here local on Craigs List, better condition and WAY less expensive, plus I got to actually look at it before commiting to the purchase.
