It seems like the most consistant common denominator for that thread was Glen playing an Ovation. It appeared that Mr. Kaman bent over backward to keep Glen by developing guitars that Glen wanted.  How important was Glen Campbell to the popularity and sucess of Ovation?

Glen absolutely put Ovation on the map. Could someone else had done the same? We'll never know. Others came along like Croce, Messina and Dadi. But who know's maybe THEY got turned on to Ovation becasue of Glen. We'll just never know.

I do find it somewhat ironic that Glen and Ovation are matching towards the dark exit door pretty much arm in arm.

If it wasn't for Melissa Etheridge and whatshisname, Ovation would have died out years ago

Glen was an anomaly. I read it in the notes.

There is an auction presently on eBay for an album by a Jack Eubanks, who is playing an Ovation on the cover. The item description claims that Jack Eubanks predated Glen Campbell in promoting Ovations:

I have never heard of Jack Eubanks, so I am glad that Glen Campbell played Ovation, because he was my greatest influence in playing and collecting Ovations for the past 42 years.

From the listing: "Jack's credits include: First musician (before Glen Campbell) who assisted in designing prototypes and in promoting Ovation Guitars".

I thought Josh White was the first musician to promote Ovation guitars.

charlie Byrd was first and passed it over to Josh cause he didn't play steel strings. Never heard of Eubanks.

Never heard of Eubanks.

Don't you remember? He was the guy who cleaned the factory restrooms on Wednesday nights. Played all the finished guitars when he was done, just waiting for his big break. Looks like he finally made it!

I did a little googling on Eubanks yesterday. He seemed like a pretty decent session guitar player and producer, but I couldn't find any connection with Ovation, other than that picture on the album.

There's a few cuts of his on Youtube. Maybe he just wasn't cut out to be a "front" guy and was destined to be more of a session player. Glen Campbell was a session guy before he got famous, but he had the voice AND looks (and undoubtedly was a better player)
