Back in the day... the Roundback Roadshow came to Apple Music Row in Portland.
Then when Fender acquired Ovation, Chuck stopped selling Ovations.
It was against his morals to peddle Korean O's.
So he sold all his O's and doesn't carry new ones.

So, today I stopped in the Apple Music acoustic shop to get thumb picks...
Chuck says, "I have been waiting for you. I have something for you."
And he goes into the back humidity room and gets this:

(pic taken when I got it home... before cleaning)

I strummed it a bit, glanced at the price tag, told him that I would be right back.
So I run home and get some money and come back.
I give him $300 cuz that is what I thought the tag said...
Chuck says, "You gave me too much... it is $249!"
Ovations just don't get the respect they deserve.

He tells me that he has had it for TWO Weeks.
He had it kinda hidden amongst the Breedloves and spendy Takamines.
But kinda back in a corner so that it wouldn't jump out at normal people.

I took it out and played it on my way home until the rain started.
It sounds great. It plays great. I am so terribly Pleased.
It got immediate compliments.

BTW-- That brown thing is a Sabine tuner.

And yes it leaves a mark...

But I put it back on. This has an OP-X preamp with no tuna.

This one will get played a Lot!

Wow! That is beautiful. Stuff like that just never happens in Japan! Ovations still are loved, respected and way over priced over here. Thanks for sharing the gem.

Arthur,
Nice guitar! My wife and I visited the Portland area a few weeks ago and liked it so much that we are thinking about moving from the east coast.

C'mon Art, to make us feel better tell us there's something wrong with it ... a little fret wear, a scratch, anything? Well done.

The fingerboard was filthy... I couldn't get all that crud off with mineral oil.
I will have to go back later with WD-40.

There is that spot under the tuner...
so I either have to keep the tuner or deal with a bald spot.

And the Wide Neck is gonna spoil me for all my other guitars.

Feel Better?

This is the Only guitar that I have ever bought from Apple Music.
Although I have bought some picks and straps... Never bought a guitar from them.
And Chuck was still looking-out for me.

I took it out to play yesterday and today.
About another $190 and it will have paid for itself.

Great story, OMA. Jeff had a similar run-in with a cherry red Legend a few years ago. Stolen treasure!

Sorta Off Topic... Guitar Center has a "$20 Off $99 or More" deal.
(you have to "chat" with them to get the code)

They also have Ovation 8158 Cases for $95.
So I just ordered a Case and a tin of Snarling Dogs Brain Pics ($6 to equal $101)...
For a total of $81.
Cuz this guitar deserves it's own case (with stickers and a name tag).

Now, I know some of you have multiple cases with nowhere to put them...
So you got them in the basement, attic, garage to the dismay of your significant other...
But I keep my guitars in cases if they ain't in 3 stands or in the ZG case to go out.

I just wanted to share that deal with everybody who needs a new case.
