It's my understanding that most members can't reply to threads in the Welcome Center so I hope the forum admins won't mind me restarting the discussion here.

I introduced myself in this thread.

http://ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=37096&...

I won't repeat everything but in a nutshell, I wanted to buy a C2078AX but now that I know they're made in Korea and that the neck is glued to the body I'm not so sure anymore. The problem is that I don't have a huge budget for this, I wanted to spend around $1000, I can stretch to $1500.

So I am now looking at this beauty but I am wondering. My first guess would be that any Adamas is better than a Korean made AX but the price leaves me thinking. Why is that guitar so much less than any other Adamas I looked at so far ? Does the "prototype" thing have anything to do with that ?

Lost Art Vintage is Al Pepiak's shop, aka Alpep, Mr. Big, etc.

Have no fear buying from him and he has access to a lot of protos and one-offs.
That looks like a wonderful guitar to me.

I had already figured out I should not worry about dealing with him. My question was not about dealing with him, it was about the guitar itself. I wondered why it's so much cheaper than other Adami. Probably a dumb question but are those identified as "prototype' actual prototypes ? And would that make them any less good than production ones ?

Though I would tend to think tha a proto made in usa is better than any mass produced unit from Korea

From C2078AX to a 1597...now you are starting to think. Best O bang for the buck.

If you have questions about that guitar compared to any Ovation...call Al at Lost Art! He would know.

Additionally, use the search tool and read through some well discussed threads here and I think you can find yourself interested in a very nice used AMERICAN made Ovation model for quite a bit less, that is equal or superior to the one you are considering.

The Adamas' with the smooth top cost less than those with the textured top. Some folks say they don't sound as good as the textured tops, but I had a 12-string version of this same guitar in my shop at one time and it sounded WONDERFUL. I think Al's offering is of a great guitar at an excellent price. If I were in the market for another Adamas, I would snag it myself.

I have basically the same model, just in a Baritone scale and it is my first choice to head out the door with.

You'll love that guitar.
I absolutely love my Cobalt W-597, it's the best sounding guitar I have.

Thanks everyone. I'm really happy, this is kinda of a dream coming true for me. I've been dreaming of getting an Adamas for 35 years now. I can't wait
