Maybe the '6102' is the serial number? He said "it's in excellent condition and was made in 98/99" The model reference says 1984-1997. If the serial number is 6102, that places it in 1991. And there are no photos. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/braddon/guitars-amps/ovation-adamas-... I'm sort of interested, but not at $3,500. But before I can make an offer I need to know from the brains trust is the 1581 a good model? Thoughts people?

If I make an offer, which is likely to be half what he's asking. I'll see what he's like though, before I make the offer. I may just walk a way and leave him with it. Thanks again for your advice. Not sure what the ship cost is, but as Mark mentioned with Al's you'd have a new guitar under warranty. That's gotta beat out $3500 for a local used one. That's where I bought mine.

If I was to pay the amount he's asking I would go for a new one and get it from Al. I really appreciate the help I get here on OFC. It is amazing! I'll keep you posted on developments.

The owner said it was made in 1998 and said that maybe it was new old stock. It looks very much like the guitar in this picture, except it has an Op-24 preamp. It has fret wear in the usual places, but doesn't need any work yet. There are a few dings on the headstock, but it is in fairly good condition. The case has seen better days. I offered him $2k, and wished him good luck. I'll keep looking for something more reasonably priced. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice.
