I took my 1983 Collector's Edition and my Roland amp and played most of the night away. Great sound and a wonderful playing guitar. One of my friends brought his Alvarez Jumbo acoustic/electric model 60 and we spent the night trading off on lead and rhythm. Both guitars sounded like a million buck to us and we got to talking about the looks. My 83 Collector has the grayburst on a "hand picked spruce" top while his Alvarez has an almost white Engleman spruce top. I am just wandering if Ovation ever sold a guitar with an Engleman Spruce top? This wood was very attractive and I like a good looking guitar as much as anybody. My Collector Edition was sounding great last night with just a touch of delay and reverb dialed into the Roland amp. I am new to Ovation guitars but this has to be one of the best acoutic/electric guitars around...I love it! Thanks for your help....if Ovation has ever offered a model with an Engleman Spruce top I just might have to start looking for one...I loved that blonde look. all my best, Bob

There may have been others that had the Engleman spruce. According to many board members the 05 was one of the best sounding Ovations. It has the contour bowl, which didn't appeal to me, but I've become much rounder since then. I'm going to try to sneak out this afternoon and take a look at an 83 Collectors. I've never played a shallow bowl that I liked much, so we'll see. The guy is way too proud of it.

It seems to me that our beloved Ovations are way underpriced compared to other quality guitars in the used market place and that is just fine with me. Still...I cannot afford a 2005 Collector at this point but I am going to start saving my money now and maybe by late March I will have enough to buy one on the used market. Thanks again for the info. The overseas production Elites were 1768 EMSX, called German Special Edition Vol. I (and maybe II and II followed, but I never heard of them). You can see one of those if you click the link in my signature and scroll down. This is not only one of the nicest natural Elites I have seen (with matching headstock), but as well one of the nicest sounding Elites I ever heard/had. Kurt
