Just wondering how a cedar top sounds compared to a spruce top Thinking of buying a cedar top,Is CEDAR softer than say spruce??

All other things being equal, I think Cedar gives a little mellower sound than spruce. The highs lose some of their bite but across the frequency spectrum, it is a more even sound. Cedar tops are usually cut a little thicker and braced a little thinner than spruce so I'd recommend doing a side by side comparison and judging for yourself.
At any rate, you don't have to worry about moths getting into your case! |
