The label in the wood-topped super shallow bowl Adamas prototype I picked up from Fugot is the same, but the word "prototype" is typed on the label.

Hey Trader, that's good to hear. I know how you feel. Just curious, how do you like the CEO-5?

Just got an answer back from Ovation, and they tell me my guitar was an engineering prototype, and it is the only one made. There may be similiar versions, but none exactly like it. The S.N. is in fact the date it was made. Pretty neat to have a one of a kind guitar, and i'm certainly glad that I bought it.

Very, very cool, Mike. Superb grab. The fact that it sounds as a Legend that age should is bonus. Enjoy it for many years to come.

The CEO-5 is the best sounding acoustic I have owned. (sorry guys)

Trader Jim, I own different brands, and enjoy them all. I have owned lots of Martin's over the years, and have a killer sounding HD-28V now. However, Ovations have always been special to me, especially the A-braced Legends. They just seem to be the guitar of choice for me.

Thank you, g8r. I feel like I made a good decision here, as well, and it is a bonus that it sounds as good as it does.

I think you like them because they remind you of your OFC user name.

Really cool. The date puts it right about the production time of the 1651 Legend Ltd (the original version of the John Lennon reissue) and the similarities are obvious (other than the finish colors).

Only thing, I didn't get the Ovation case with the guitar. I don't know why it wasn't in the original case, but I know when I bought my Legend new, the case was extra. It doesn't make sense not to buy it with the guitar, though. Something could have happened to it over the years. I will be looking for a really nice brown case for it in the near future, for sure.

This makes the selling price of the guitar even sweeter. I ended up getting it for 375.00 + shipping. These old Legends have got to be the best deals going right now. I don't know why they don't bring a better price than they do, considering the quality. What other American made guitar can you buy at that price? When you consider the AAA top wood, ebony fretboard, gold hardware, etc. not to mention the electronics, and the awesome sound they produce, these are real bargains. If I could only make my wife understand.

That's gotta be the deal of the year. I agree these guitars are seriously undervalued right now. There've been quite a few of them on eBay not even getting low, low opening bids in the past few weeks. I felt lucky when I sold a '78 vintage right after Christmas for the high $500's. As to the wife, well I think we can all sympathize. :D

What happens if the guitar cracks? Will the shipping ins. pay for it as shipping damage? Are you just stuck with a bum guitar or what? Always wondered about that.

If you want to try to challenge them for the insurance coverage, be ready for a 3 or 4 month fight. I went through it with another guitar, and if you are persistent, you can prevail. The shipper has to initiate the claim, and the best thing you can do is take lots of pictures of the packing BEFORE you send it, that way you have a little ammunition when you go after them. Eventually, you can collect if you keep after them.
