I don't really mind the Gap. Some of their commercials are cool.

I had a sweet young southern lass once say to me: "I sure feel like balling tonight — want to?" An insanely stupid conversation (on my part) ensued and imagine the embarrassment when it turns out she actually said BOWLING.

We (and the Brits) call 'em "rubbers" - you call 'em "erasers".

Imagine the confusion at school.

"have you got your rubber?"

"Mum! I'm only seven!"

Years ago, in Italy, I was fitting this school kid from Northern England with skis and boots - he was about 12 and the last client for the day. 3 of my friends had come down to help me tidy up.

I weighed the kid to set the bindings and for a rakishly thin kid, he weighed a ton.

I jokingly asked him where he hid his weight and he replies "I've got big balls!"

All four of us looked at each other, I said "big WHAT?" (We ALL heard him say "balls!")

Turns out he said "Bones".

Aren't dialects great? :p

I still think that this local sign had a lot of merit!
