I just paid $55,000 for an Ovation Folklore guitar !!!
Not really...That was some other guy.
What I did do was buy a beautiful "Folklore" from "Stellarjim" that was posted on this site. It's my first Ovation and and I couldn't be more pleased. It's in fantastic shape, rings like a bell and is simply the nicest sounding guitar I've played.
So, as a newbie, I wanted to introduce myself to the Ovationfanclub members, to thank you fellas for maintaining this site, which is a font of Ovation nuanced information, and to thank "Stellarjim" for nursing this instrument along and turning her over to me. Me happy !

Nice! Congratulations and welcome to the board. Even better that your Folklore stays "in the family." Colin's right, BTW - this is your first of many!

Welcome, "PJ;"
Not only have you gotten an excellent guitar, you've also found a great place to visit (although there may be times you definitely wouldn't want to live here! ;) :D )
If you've lurked here for awhile, you'll already know what makes this place so special--if you haven't, you'll discover soon enough.
Just don't let Tupperware overcharge you for his revolutionary string tubes--a word to the wise is sufficient..... ;)

Does Tup still have any string tubes? Mine are just about worn out.

BTW, welcome! You have a great guitar there.
Be sure to stay away from the Llamas

Nope, all gone. But I have noticed some on ebay that were appearently purchased and never used. Prices are starting to creep up a little as the supply becomes more limited. Dare I say collectable?

Wow ! Thank you all very much for the warm welcome and advice.
I have been crawling through the site and it's amazingly informative in a comfy relaxed way..like you guys are neighbors, hangin out on the porch ...and I'm learning a bunch about these unique instruments. Someday, I hope to be able to play!!

I'm afraid you're right though...I'll probably wind up with a few older, seasoned Os, and maybe, just maybe try my hand at refurbishing one lost soul downstream, which is heresy in my family, having been raised orthodox Yamaha. (sold my flawless FGX412c cheap to finance the folklore)
So thank you again and I'm damned glad to know y'all.
Now,what the heck is a "string tube"???

"Now,what the heck is a "string tube"???"

Let's just say they're critical if you're passing over that ocean in Arizona...

Hey Paul:
Glad to hear everything's going so well with you and your new sweetheart. You'll be able to have a lot of fun with her. As I understand it, you Canadians need something to help get you through those long winters...good choice!

Take care.

Hey StellarJim, the Folklore is excellent Winter company and as you know Canada only has two seasons; Winter & July....and you must be from Southern Ohio, the warm part, right??

But did I read somewhere there's a new girl in your life. You no sooner ship off the EX and you're marrying her beautiful FD cousin ??? ;) Just can't get over those short wide necks huh? Congrats, she's just lovely.

Gotta fly...installing my new string tubes now!

You know Beggin, I did a curiosity search for these elusive tubes and found that somebody is really selling some kind of plastic tube (available in three sizes) that protect the strings at the bridge friction points. First quarter score: Trader Jim -27000 posts - Pablojerome 3. FISH CAUGHT HUH?
