Y'all will have to excuse me. I've been in the cooler this afternoon.
But, How come you never see a capo on an electric guitar? i.e. Strat, LP, etc., etc.

Just curious.

i think electric guitars sound better with barre chords or open chords played up the neck more so than open chords in the first position. so no need for the capo. open chords on an electric, to my ears, are not as pleasant to hear as on an acoustic.

It is also true that barre chords are easier on an electric guitar, at least in my experience.

I use one on mine once in a while. But the thing about electrics is they are so hot and have so much sustain that playing them is 50% about damping the strings. Much easier when you just need to lift a little pressure off your fretting hand.

I play a version of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah on electric with the capo on the second fret and lots of open strings...but that one is supposed to ring out. No "chunking" going on. Most of the time if I am using a capo its at church on my acoustic where a song is written in Eb and I capo on the third fret so I can use C shapes.

Rory Gallagher on the cover of 'Live in Europe' - with his venerable paint-stripped Strat. I'd imagine it was to facilitate easy key changes on open tunings

I tune to C or D standard and use a capo at the second fret quite a bit...acoustic or electric..

Re Hallelujah , its just G, C, D, Em and B7. The main verse goes back and forth between the G and the Em. Capo it up to fit your voice.

I came up with my own intro. I don't like it as much as Buckley's, but I wanted something different. I'll show it to you in FLA.

No one mentioned Jimmie Vaughan...

I saw him live several years ago, and he was great and all, but he never took that capo off of the neck not ONCE! I think he was going for that Slim Harpo thing, or something, because I've seen him on TV or YouTube and never used it. So, I thought it was just a passing fancy kinda thing.
