Thanks Joe and Al.

That was really interesting. With all of the work that goes into these guitars, I don't know how they manage to sell them so cheaply!

That was a great video...unfortunately, I never had the ability to attend a tour but did allow others to attend with my credit card miles...one even got an Elite out of attending.

We all have a high respect for everyone at the factory.!! And for those of us who have sent guitars back for repairs...an outstanding and thank you!!

For a Marine, the highest compliment is 'outstanding". I have bought a number of new and older Ovations and Adamas knowing that you were there to support us.

Great video! Surprised to hear the worker in the paint shop say that the tops were first given 4 or 5 coats of acrylic as a base coat then as many coats of urethane as the final coat? Seems that so thick a layer of coatings would be detrimental to the sound. Could that be the reason so many otherwise great looking eBay used, or deeply discounted new Ovations have as their only fault pictured a variety of top finish cracks? Anyone know why Ovation feels so thick a top coating is necessary? I've seen Internet for sale classifieds that say "...with a couple of the usual finish cracks..." A very good local luthier that I know says he uses only enough lacquer to seal the top grain and make the guitar uniformally shiny. He feels anything thicker is not proper.

So buy one of his guitars.

Instead of wondering why a company does this or that, you could just use that information in your decisions on what to purchase.
If you think that Ovations sound like cwap... Don't Buy One.

pretty simple

The greatest irony of this video is that underneath his loose and unbuttoned outer shirt, Darren is obviously wearing a GUILD t-shirt.

Hence my, OMA's, and several others' love of the Elite T tops. Their thinner enamel makes them brighter and boomier. (That's also why the TX's are almost, but not as, bright and boomy - the textured enamel is almost twice as thick as the original T's).

Very nice they should show this in the "how it's made" documentary series. I was very intrigued by the section on necks: for one, I was not aware that there are still models with K-bars are being built, and I also found the statement interesting that the most "popular" neck type is with a dovetail joint, whereas the LX neck was just mentioned in passing. I assume the dovetail neck is the one used in the AX models now?

Yeah, he said that they were running some custom order LX necks cuz some people like them.
Probably special order for those Ovation geeks.

You are right about the dovetail being "popular".

AGF troll? Not sure what that is. But I always love OMA's contributions here.

And there I thought these necks were made in Asia ... so maybe the video was made during the transition period, or neck are still US made and shipped to Asia, or were the ones shown for the US Signature models ... confusing.

Thanks (Joe, Al). I especially appreciated the visual on the Adamas suspension ring. Now I get it!
