Joined: August 2013 Posts: 16 | Hello- Was reading the thread titled: "Op-Pro XLR add" because I want to do this to my guitar. It is equipped with the OP-PRO preamp, but only has the 1/4" output on the body. I'm aware that I need the combo board with the two jacks, but the one thing that is not clear, is whether or not I need a different interconnect cable between the preamp and the combo jack board. Part numbers would be a big help as well. You wouldn't believe the hard time I have been getting from about a dozen authorized dealers about obtaining these parts. I spoke with Kaman on this about six months ago, and they directed me to their authorized dealers to obtain the parts, and for some reason they wouldn't give me part numbers- that has been making what should have been a very simple purchase a real pain, because now I have to contact the dealer, then they have to contact Kaman, then wait for a response, then I have to wait for them to get back to me...etc etc and so forth...over, and over, and over again... Sooo- my question to you fine folks: Does anyone know if I need a different interconnect cable, or is the combo jack board the only part I need to obtain from Kaman, and does anyone know the part number(s)? It sure would save me a lot of time. You wouldn't believe how many authorized dealers I had to explain my story to, over and over again, and how many of them told me: 1- you can't do that, and 2- I have no idea how to get you that part... Kaman for some unknown reason would not sell to me direct. It's my understanding that this little board is dirt cheap, and it is like pulling teeth trying to get it from one of their dealers...very frustrating... Can anyone help with part number(s)? Can anyone direct me to a "dealer" that actually knows the instruments and will not look at me like a deer caught in the headlights when I try to order parts? Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

That is the socket for the XLR card hookup... ![]() If you can does not have that hookup, you would need a new can. Once you have the Kaman card with the XLR and 1/4" jacks, you must carefully cut the bowl to situate the card properly. You also must be sure to get the correct XLR cable, because not all cables work with the Kaman XLR. Something about which pin is the ground or is it the shell. Or you could just go buy an XLR Direct-out box... ![]() (this one costs about $15... You can get more expensive with more features)

The ribbon interconnect cable comes with the board, and I got a really, really great deal on it. Haven't had any luck finding the template for the hole I need to cut in the bowl online- it appears to be offline these days. If anyone still has a copy of that template and can send it along to me, I would certainly appreciate it. Naturally, I can and will make my own if need be. I'm aware that placement is critical and it's better to start smaller and work your way up to proper sizing :-) Oh, and Damon67- a DI box is not what I'm after- the big selling point of the XLR is the phantom power option- I have had one too many batteries fail or go anemic during a gig, and the OP-PRO distorts quickly after the battery drops below 9V. Having a guaranteed good juice supply for the preamp is what I'm after; I'll save the battery for the tuner... ...You wouldn't believe how many "authorized" ovation dealers either never bothered to respond, or told me "you can't do that"... Thanks! :-)

Joined: August 2013 Posts: 16 | slight bump... Does anyone still have a copy of that XLR combo jack template? I can certainly make one from, the part when it arrives, but if a good template already exists, I sure would like to see it... ...Anyone? Thanks! :-) ps- I am also in the market for a second OP can with the xlr out- I am considering changing out the preamp on my 12-string balladeer as well, for the benefit of the xlr out and phantom power option...Already have a spare OP Pro pre... If anyone has a good can with the xlr out that looks like the one posted above in this thread, please let me know...Thanks! :-)
