I went to the Tommy Emmanuel concert in Hartford last night. Wow! Tommy's truly awe-inspiring.

He's both a true master guitarist as well as a wonderful songwriter/compos

Tommy makes the guitar cover all the possible sounds and moods that spectacular instrument can convey. From wildly exuberant -- the most common -- to gentle, to achingly melancholy, to lovely, to tenderly sweet -- and all points in-between.

He even turns the guitar into a full-featured percussion instrument. (For those of you who can't afford just to pick up a fine-quality guitar now and them, I advise against trying this at home.) And all of this with just an acoustic guitar and an amplifier! No effects to disguise mistakes (maybe a bit of reverb from time to time, but that's it) ... just Tommy, a guitar and a galaxy-load of talent and control over the instrument.

If you ever have a chance -- you probably will; he does around 300 concerts a year -- go take in a Tommy Emmanuel concert. You will never, ever, not ever, not for a million years, regret it. More to the point, you will fill your ears with such glorious, gorgeous, full-throated, laugh-out-loud fun and happiness that your smile will last for a loooooong time thereafter!

Phil is spectacular too...if you're not kidding, then you did one heckuva of a one-upping on me! I hope you DID have the opportunity to jam with him and weren't just kidding!

I'm on the far right, out of sight for most of the clip until the harmonica solo - which is me.

Phil is just to the right of the keyboards.

Wow! Great stuff! Not often one can say one has jammed with Phil Emmanuel! Do you get to do that often? Loved the harmonica solo! Nicely done!

Every Saturday afternoon for the 7 weekends leading up to the performance.

Like I said in another thread, he's a real person - who just happens to be one of the worlds best electric guitar players.

My favourite quote from the experience - "why play a musical instrument that people can talk over?"
