Watermelon - Leo Kottke

Nice little tune there Eriewan, love the alternate tunings and a slide. I will have to work on that one! Leo is a master, some of his stuff is hands down genius.

I have to look up a couple more of the songs mentioned, I like finding music I never heard.

Here's one I have not added to my set lists, as I still don't have it all, but as I slowly meliorate I come closer. He plays this on a 12 string acoustic but this is the version I always liked.

This is probably one of the most useful, pragamtic threads on this entire bullitin bd. I think i accidently started it with an off in a recent Pacemaker 12 thread with a post indicating how I hardly ever play my (one and only)12 string, a sunburst Pacemaker, and when i do, its usually the same half a dozen old tunes (Not Stairway!!). I plan to print this out and list the songs and throw it in the Pacemaker case for future reference.

I just heard a song that I have to try with a 12er: "Please Read The Letter That I Wrote". I heard it for the first time tonight on "Crossroads".

It's got that Kris Kristoferson feel with the Everly Brothers harmony. Roy O. would have nailed it.

Yeah, I'm an ol' fart, 61 years young! Move along, nothing to see here...

You should check out the version from Robert Plant/Alison Krauss version of that song. Actually that whole Raising Sand album is great

I saw that Plant/Krauss Crossroad last night, in HD on a big screen lcd tv no less. I really like the rendition of Black Dog. Really focussed on the lyrics instead of Jimmy Page's classic riff. You know the riff, its the riff you always hear some 12 year old play at volume 11 on a Les paul at Sam Ash every time you visit. Robert Plant looks older than Kieth Richards, maybe he is.

I usually play them on a 6 string, but they also sound better on a 12-string ... that is only when I get the opportunity to play a 12 as I really don't own one :(

My favorite 12-string songs(don't actually play them all) are,in no particular order:
Turn Turn Turn-Byrds
Nowhere Man-Beatles
You Were on My Mind-We Five
Give a Little Bit-Supertramp
Look Through any Window-Hollies

And since it still gets my vote for being the best rock song ever written-even though over the years a lot of folks have started hating it-until I hear one that I think is better(IMO), Stairway to Heaven-Led Zep

One of my favorites.

I think that was one of the first popular sons to feature a 12 string.

I also like to play Danny Boy on a 12.

BTW: I'm an Ol'Fart too.

Found another after digging through my 'song book': 'Let's Live for Today' by the Grassroots.

Ya might want to check out the Yardbirds, Beau Brummel, Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, the Hollies, Kinks and Yardbirds. Lotsa good ol' stuff...

Day-um, havin' some major musical flashbacks...

Let's keep this link going... :D

Man. I'm glad I read this. I didn't know they did a Crossroads. I'm recording it tomorrow.

To me, 12-strings are like boats - it's better to have a friend that has one than to actually own one myself.
