Hi,
Just picked up a 1624 Country Artist model and it had, at one time, some kind of funky swirly decal across the top (seems I have seen this before) There is glue residue and shadows in this pattern and I wonder what might be the best way to fix? Can I take a real fine sand paper to it, thinner or is this best left to a pro to strip and redo?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
tj

Don't use sandpaper. Take a very soft cloth and put a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the cloth first, then lightly wipe the surface. Most any kind of thinner will tend to dissolve the polyurethane, don't use thinner.

tj,

Welcome to the OFC. You've got a great guitar. I would tend to agree with Steve. Go slowly and you should be able to remove all the residue. Ovations have a pretty durable finish.

BTW; Both Steve and I, along with a lot of other members have this model guitar.

I'd try Goo Gone. It's natural and supposedly doesn't have any harsh chemicals. Just don't leave it on too long. Goo Gone

Naptha (lighter fluid) will remove it.

Well, I tried both the rubbing alchohol and the Naptha with no luck. It must have been ingrained into the finish. Once the weather gets a little more consistent in a month or two here in N. California, I will take to my guitar guy and see if he can do an affordable fix.
Am having fun with it, great sound plugged in.

If it's on the surface of the finish keep rubbing with the Naptha. If it's damaged the finish then try meguire's scratch x.

Stickers that have been on guitars awhile can leave 'sticker shadow' when removed. It's due to the differential effects of light. Really good polishing with a scratch remover can even the surface, but it takes time for the differences in color shading to even.
