Give it a few more weeks until after the NAMM convention.
If there are any plans (or lack of them)... they'll come out (or not) at NAMM.

I heard a rumor that Taylor Guitars bought Ovation from Fender, and that Justin Beiber will be the first signed artist.

I was gazing into the shiny bowl and this I saw...

More repackaging and and spoo on the horizon followed by relentless longing for exagerated memories of good ol bad ol days...

In 2016 the new President of the US will have a teenager that plays Ovation/Adamas and the "Lincoln Room" will totally rock!
Also noted is that the "New Age" kids will have short hair, get good grades and prefer to wear their pants up with a coordinated belt.
Thus sayeth the Shiny Bowl...

As the philosopher Giambattista Vico used to say "history repeats itself", thus there will be a new Ovation era around the corner......

A rechargeable preamp would be a nice innovation.

Custom shop will close or delay (in excess of six months) will exasperate buyers, possible no 12-string; mimimum of 200-300% over original MAP
Used Hamers will appreciate
1986-1989 Ovations will show strong appreciation (good to excellent condition condition)
Ovation and Adamas NOS or 9+ will appreciate 20-30% (this includes Al's excellent inventory)
Fender will sell Guild even though showing quality production
Ovation line totally based on off-shore, disregrading how branded

After reading Tony's post... The idea of Ovation being sold to Taylor sounds pretty good.

Taylor is a guitar company... Fender is an investment company.

As to Taylor, as Bob has so much penetration in the guitar stores, doubt if he would be a buyer. If he was, they would be Mexican made as he already utilizes Mexican luthiers on his low end. After all, El Cajon is pretty close to T.J. Course, I could be wrong.

Go Ducks!

Predictions have to be based on underlying assumptions. My general economic view is very negative over the next few years. Really bad actually. So I think unfortunately news will be bad generally out of O/A. My tax increase despite the cliff deal is more than the cost of a custom Adamas order, and we are a typical middle class family.

One major reason for sending my daughter Sara's Adamas back to Mother before Jan 1 was to get it in the shop before any further reductions or closures are announced.

I also don't see used values changing much in either direction.

One thing O/A has been doing of recent is something I've been vocal about for many years - they have significantly escalated the prices of USA models. $3500-$4000 for a wood or carbon topped Adamas. The irony is that I think that is a very good thing. Otherwise they will not be taken seriously. If you want to compete in the Martin/Taylor/Guild world than you have to be priced accordingly. Nobody in the market for a $4000. guitar is going to settle for a $1500. Ovation. But if O/A is in the same price range they might at least get a look.

The conjecture would be, the $1.5K Ovation is as good as the $4K Taylor/Martin/Guild. I think there's an intuitive limit to "you get what you pay for".

But I do have $600 Ovations that sound just as good as any Taylor/Martin/Guild out there.
There is also the concept of diminishing returns.
After a certain price point, you are just throwing money around to say that it cost more.
I have a friend who has a really nice $14,000 Martin that he plays on the street...
It is a Nice guitar... But I ain't sure that it sounds much better than my Sweet T.
(I ain't even comparing it to an Adamas)
I was lead to believe that with Ovation you will get a Great Guitar at a Great Price.
Just cuz you spend more, doesn't necessarily mean that you get more!

No, it doesn't matter. The point is that we whine on and on that many people "throw their money away" on $4k guitars when they should be buying O/A for half that price. But that equation won't work, you've got to turn it around. Charge $4k for an O/A and 1) you'll get the well heeled crowd to give them and try and 2) given a try they will probably buy them.

The japanese car makers figured this out long ago. The guy in the market for a new BMW isn't going buy a Camry no matter how damn good JD Powers tells him it is. It's just not going to happen. But buff it up a little, raise the price $15k and call it a Lexus and they start eating into BMWs lunch.

no you don't

You may have some great sounding guitars (and probably do) but that is a ridiculous statement.

Yes, I do... and have done side-by-side comparisons.

In a blind sound test, my Sweet T and my GCXT with-a-cracked-top will sound as good as any wood-box.
And my Adamas sounds Better than most wood-boxes.
