I bought this guitar new in 2005 for my teenage daughter. As a longtime guitarist, I liked my Ovation Al DiMeola #1769 model so much that I decided on another Ovation for her first guitar. Ultimately she didn't have the time or inclination to learn to play guitar, yet has remained attached to it and has not wanted to part with it until recently. She's in college now and needs money because her car is dying, so she's reluctantly selling it.

The guitar is in extremely good shape with no real evidence of use, because it hasn't seen much use at all. No bridge separation, the neck is straight, all the electrics work fine. The bright-red onboard chromatic tuner is clearly visible and extremely helpful to have, particularly if you play out and/or in darkened areas.

I had some custom work done by a professional luthier at the time of purchase, as follows: Round 9/32" abalone fret-marker dots were installed on frets 3, 5, 7, 9, 15, 17 & 19, because Ovation inexplicably left them off, except for their 12th fret swoosh-like octave marker. Seriously, Ovation?? A guitar without fret markers is like a book without page numbers (especially for a beginner), right? So I had them installed. They are perfect, and look as if they came pre-installed from the factory. Plus functionally they allow you to see which fret you're playing on, obviously...

Also added was an abalone dot on either side of the bridge, plus a very cool all-abalone truss-rod cover (I also still have the original Collectors' script truss-rod cover; see attached pics). The extra abalone work is beautiful and really brightens up the guitar!

This guitar has Ovation's deep body but with a flattened contour back, which makes it much more comfortable to play than their standard rounded big-bowl shape (really wish my DiMeola had that!). It sounds great, whether played acoustically or electrically, and plays beautifully, too. It's currently strung with D'Addario phosphor bronze Custom Lights (.011-.052), which make for easy playing, but it could take lighter or heavier strings if you're so inclined.

BTW, I have an '05ES - I highly recommend them. GREAT guitar. Personally, I like the LACK of bling on this model.

I always wanted an Al Di Meola, but the '05 came along at the right time and right price. I think of it as a contour bowl ADII without the boost button.
