Location: Route 66, just east of the Cadillac Ranch | Can the top on an Adamas be refinished? At some point in the life of my 1689, the epaulets started to lift and what ever glue was used to reattach them leached the color out of the surrounding top. I'll check with John after the first of the year, but I thought maybe someone here might know. Nick

Location: Sydney, Australia | I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it could and would simultaneously advise against it. Solvents that disolve paint (acetone, paint stripper etc) would *probably* not disolve the carbon fibre, because carbon fibre is generally made with a two-part resin (similar to Araldyte), which would probably resist action by most solvents. However, even if that was successful, the solvent would probably strip the finish from the epis (and you need to get right into that edge). Just painting over the old finish would be hard to get an even coat for the same reason (getting into the edge).
I'd leave it the way it is. Or sell it to me for $350, it's obviously ruined and of no use to anyone. |

Location: California | I have not come across reading about refinishing an adamas top or someone posting here that type of repair. Very interesting. First of all, hope the factory can remove only the epaulets and I would think there is not need to remove the bridge.
Second, painting or touching with paint partially those areas around the epauletes will be enough. But don't know if the MS has done this before, hope they have available the same epauletes for replacement.

Location: Route 66, just east of the Cadillac Ranch | Thanks guys for your input. You both bring up some valid concerns and I'm leaning toward TAFKAR's suggestion...the one about keeping it. <grin> Even though it's heavy (K-bar neck), and has a few blemishes, it just booms and the wide neck is forgiving of my sometimes less than perfect finger placement. I may go ahead and ask John if it's possible, just for reference. If I do I'll share what he says here. Thanks again

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Did you buy it new? If so, it comes with a lifetime warranty. I wonder if this would be covered? Also, just what is a lifetime? The owner's? The guitar's? The factory's? |

No, I got it from playadamas a couple of years ago. Hmmm, I wonder how he's doing? |
