I posted a month or so ago about the electronics inside my Custom Legend 1619 needing fixed.  Y'all told me to change my battery.  I did and it didn't help.  I knew there was something wrong, but I did have to rule out the battery first.  Now that I know for sure it's the electronics, I need to get it repaired.  I have always taken my Ovation to an "authorized" Ovation repairman but now I can't find that list of authorized people on their web site.  I seem to remember there being three or four possible people within a 2-hour drive of my town.  The last guy I took it to was in Raleigh, NC.  I can't find his contact info.  So, where can I find that list of "authorized" Ovation technicians?  Or has Ovation's policy changed regarding the authorizing of repair people?  I don't want just anyone tinkering inside my Ovation.  I want an Ovation specialist.  AND I want to ensure that whatever is replaced inside will not devalue the instrument.  I feel sure that one day my Custom Legend will be considered a very valuable "vintage" instrument and I don't want to compromise it's future value.

You can buy a new preamp from Ovation. I understand your concern for your instrument but replacing the preamp is a simple procedure. I have had the preamp in and out of my Adamas many times and it now functions perfectly. Anyone who is reasonably handy, has the proper tools, and has respect for their work and for your guitar will do a fine job.

Hi Meredith,

Here's a link to the list of service centers posted at Ovation.

Hope it helps.

My CL was made in 1980 I think. It's American made in Conn.

THAT's the link I was looking for! I found the list and I found the guy in Raleigh who worked on my Ovation last time it needed servicing. I've already called him and left a message with him. Hopefully I can drive over to Raleigh, drop it off in the next week, and pick it up again before the New Year.

As much as you cherish your baby, why don't you send it to the Mothership for the repair?

Well, I don't want to ship it and Connecticut is a long drive from eastern NC. But if I had the time over the Christmas holidays I would do it. At the moment I have a very sick kitty who is recovering from two major surgeries. He requires special attention almost round-the-clock right now. I have to leave work at lunch to come home to look after him. So, I really can't go out of town any time soon. It may be a month or more before I can go anywhere in fact.

I do have the old style hard-shell case that I could have the local "Pack-n-Ship" type store box up for me with padding. In fact, while it's at the mothership they may be able to fix my case too. One of the latches doesn't work very well. Hmm.... I wonder how much it would cost and how long it would take to replace whatever electronic thing is that needs replacing.
