Hi, I'm new here, but I have been playing Ovation for over 30 years. I have a Custom Legend 1619, natural finish, acoustic-electric. It's the model without the cutaway. From what I've seen online, this is now considered "vintage" Ovation. Despite its age and how much I've played it, I'm proud to say it's in excellent condition. I think I remember it costing me about $2400 when I bought it new around 1980, so I was surprised to find it going for less than $1000 these days. Anyway, I'm quite certain the electronics are shot in mine and I need to decide either to fix the electronics or possibly refit it with all new, updated electronics. Will this effect the value of my Ovation in a negative way if I "update" it? Back in the '80s when I was a music major in college, majoring in guitar, I was in a folk band and I hooked it up to an amp all the time. After college I didn't play too many gigs where I needed to amplify it. I now teach elementary music at a public school and I teach private guitar after school, so I play every day, but I don't really need to amplify. Recently I decided to buy a small, portable amp so I could play some local venues, but when I hooked up my Ovation I hardly got any sound. About a year ago I hooked it up and only 3 of the 6 strings came through the amp! What's up with that?? Geez! I really need to get this fixed! Anyway, my Custom Legend has a lifetime warranty and I'm wondering if Ovation will honor the warranty to fix this. If I decide to "update" the electronics will the fanciest, newest thing Ovation has, what should I expect to pay? I have no "authorized" Ovation repair person in my town, but rest assured I have NEVER let anyone touch my Ovation unless they were authorized by Ovation, even if I had to drive two hours to find the right person to do the job.

Hi Meredith. Since nobody is answering, I will do the best that I can...

"Anyway, my Custom Legend has a lifetime warranty and I'm wondering if Ovation will honor the warranty to fix this."
If you bought this new, your warranty should still be good. You can contact Ovation HERE
If you have a cell phone, or free long-distance, I would just call them.
If nothing else, you may get some simple advice... Like, your battery is fresh, right?

The problem with 3 of 6 strings working could be the pickup saddle. If so, you could get a new saddle.
The Ovation people could tell you better. They might want you to ship the guitar to Connecticut.

After the Football games someone may come along and upgrade your account so that you can post this in the General Posting section.

Meanwhile, Welcome... Stick Around.

Thanks for the reply. I have submitted an online info request and hope to hear from Ovation soon. It would be worth it for me to drive up to Conn. from North Carolina, if I have to. Looking at the map, I don't relish having to go via D.C. and NYC though. Geez. If I fly I'll have to worry about my Ovation going through luggage check. The airlines never let me carry it on and I can't afford to buy it a seat. One airline LOST it once. It was eventually found, but I was sweating bullets for a whole day waiting to hear.

Meredith, welcome.

I've updated your status, so feel free to post wherever.

As for upgrading electronics, they may have a new updated version of that same preamp as they recently did a re-issue with the same.

Please do check that battery first though, if you haven't already.

Damon
