I moved to Colorado over the summer and my guitars are experiencing a drying-out. My baby--1982 Ovation Collector's (the blue one/first in the Collector's series)--now has a crack in the wood. What is the best method for adding humidity to the room where I keep the guitars? Do I need to start keeping them in their cases?--they usually stay in their on-stage stands for easy access. Is an all-room humidifier the way to go or is an individual guitar-hole humidifier better? --John

Both! If you like to keep your guitars in stands, you need a whole room humidifier.
And you should have humidifiers in the cases when you put them away.
I don't know where in Colorado you are... Desert? Mountains? Both are equally bad.

And Welcome!

I'm not a venerated elder so cannot reply to your introduction, so I'll post to you privately. I recently brought a 40th anniversary Balladeer back to Denver from north Texas, and while I keep it in its case with a soundhole humidifier, I have a newfound awareness of humidity levels, and what I have found is that over the last 2 months our humidity has been above 30 percent more often than not...a day or two around 20-25% and then back up to 40-45%.

What part of Clorado are you in? If you are in the Denver area, hit up professorBB and stephent28. Both are real good guys, here on the forum, and local.

Welcome to OFC!

It gets dry here in Seattle too, but it's because we run our heaters. I have to keep the humidifier runing almost 24/7 in winter.

It's important to get something that has settings too. Mine has high or low and i can set it to 40/45/50/55 for humidity settings. i also have a seperate hygrometer just to double check too.

I was a cheap-skate and spent less than $100, a small price to pay to keep my girls happy. There are better humidifiers that have bigger reservoirs, but they usually start at a couple hundred.
