For example, this morning a guy and his wife walked in and said they really like Ovation guitars. The first thing I did was alert them that out of the four I have hanging here, only the 12-string was for sale -the rest are mine. (Keeps people from grabbing MY guitars) Then of course I asked the standard question, "What kind of guitars do YOU have?" When the gentleman said, "Well, I have an Al DeMeola and ..." I looked at him and said, "Wait a minute, I KNOW you! Which one are you?" Which one turned out to be our own Slipkid! We sat and visited and played a little, and they even got to meet a couple of my dearest friends while they were here. I went over their maps and pointed out some of the things they need to see while they are in the Hills, and before long it was time for them to go. It was a short visit, but a good one. How wonderful to meet someone I've "known" for years now, and to find out that he really IS the great guy he seems to be. And his wife is a sweetheart too. The bummer part of it is, I only have one t-shirt left, and I meant to give it to Brad along with one of my business cards, but I forgot. I don't remember, but I think he may have already gotten a t-shirt a couple of years back, but I wish I had spoken up when I thought of it instead of waiting until I forgot. He may be back though - they just took a ride up Hot Brook Canyon and will have to pass by on their way out. Anyway, I just wanted to thank them for popping in and to let the rest of you know that Canterbury String Shop is ALWAYS open and I LOVE surprises. So stop in!

So one day, two years ago, Karl (Charlie Ramon) was standing at my front door. Now we are really good friend and whenever he is in the region, he visit me here. I will go on vacation in 6 weeks now and this year I will visit some of the Europian guys here. Karl will be my first stop, Titti and Riccardo will follow (so is the plan). When I'm back I'll post some lines and some pics...... Bernie

Having driven between here and the Midwest too many times, mostly in VW vans, I still enjoy driving through the mountains much more than the part across the plains. I will be in Michigan for a week next year, without a vehicle, so I expect him to come and see me then. And speaking of Karl, when we showed up in Rothenburg and saw him sitting it the lobby of the hotel with a couple of Adamas guitars, it was like meeting an old friend, especially when he introduced himself to "SWMBO". A reminder Karl: it's "Vision" not "Wision". And a warning to all you Germans out there--don't come to America and order a "weggie", expecting to get a vegetable sandwich. That happened to a German gal in Salt Lake last week. She was lucky I didn't give her a wedgey.

Thank you. It was our pleasure. I told Pam that an OFC gathering is just the same just with more nice people. You have some mighty fine guitars laying around & it was a real treat to test drive them. (guys.. she has an old parlor size Martin on the shelf that is really something special) . Allison... you gave us the heads up on that secret little park. It was perfect. Nice and quiet. We had a bologna sandwich then in true Michi-tucky fashion we plopped our folding chairs right in the middle of the creek and chillled out. . Mark... let me know when & where. We'll be at Devils Tower tomorrow if you want to hook up. Sidebar---- wouldn't it be cool if the people who ran Devils Tower hired a couple semi-trucks with "Piggley Wiggley" on the side just to drive around the area? Also... driving all the way across South Dakota in one session is down right brutal. Thanks again Allison. You take care of yourself.... okay? Edited by Slipkid 2012-07-16 9:11 PM

That's where I tried to get them to meet us on vacation, so I didn't have to drive all the way. Never worked out. Just drive the rest of the way across Wyoming and Idaho and I'll meet you in McCall Friday.

And if I don't answer either phone I must be at the grocery store so try again in a few minutes. Do I have a life outside of the shop? Not really, but then again, my life here at the shop is so good I wouldn't change a thing.

Almost everyone I know has a cell phone and there is nothing more annoying than talking to a customer only to have his cell phone ring and suddenly, I and the guitars and the world no longer exist. Or the ones who walk in already on the phone and they just stand there talking and ignoring the world around them. I've actually had guys walk in talking on the phone, walk around and look at the guitars on the wall while talking, and then walk out without ever having said one word to me. I have a rule that anyone who is here for a lesson must turn theirs off. If they can't be out of touch with their friends for 45 minutes, they aren't really interested in music anyway.
