I regretted giving that up for something lighter but I bought it when BIG was the style but later it was to heavy to haul around to gigs. After all these years, I'm jammin with a friend and he says he's got some old amp he's about to toss out since its been sitting in his shed for ages. Low and behold its an Ovation!!! Same K6002 head as the one I owned but a smaller powered speaker cab with (2) 12" speakers and a single horn!! Hard to find info on these old dogs like schematics, specs, etc for testing and repair so I'm searching for sources of info. I would appreciate anything anyone can share. As far as parts, you'd need to trouble-shoot to component level which is not that difficult. I don't recall any proprietary parts other than the boards themselves, but it's been awhile since I've been inside one. I plan on fixing a bunch up for sale in the very near future. By fix up, I just mean test and make sure they still work. Miles

Miles Based on my observation of the contents of your boathouse, "a bunch" would be an understatement unless you plan on keeping most of them. I wouldn't be surprised if you had the world's largest inventory of Ovation amps.

I had (maybe still have) the most Ovation Electrics in the world so it seemed only fitting to have the most amps

I think this cab was dropped since the magnet and cap with logo seperated from the speaker frame. Thanks for the info. I assume the head is putting out standard line level audio to the power amp? If so, I can test that portion and focus on the amplifier caps, transistors, etc. thanks for the feedback.

I dedicated a large portion of my weekend before the Seattle/Tacoma Guitar show on this very question and came up empty.. Are there ANY numbers, letters or markings under that cap, likely on the back of the magnet or base of the basket under where the cover was. I have several of these speakers that are in essentially new condition and we believe they are Eminence or CTS however, the only markings I have ever found are form LCC who is a company that makes cones for some of the other speaker manufactures. I have my fingers crossed there are some numbers on the back of the actual magnet....

Two circles with the letters "U" and "S" next to each other and a 4 digit number 8901 as best as I can tell. I'd send a picture but there isn't much to see beyond what I described. I hope this helps. The 8901 isn't breaking out to any manufacturer yet, but I'll keep working on it. By the way, if you need a replacement speaker... which speaker do you need? Should say Audient 80 or Audient 50 etc..

It's great to know there are some parts out there but I got to get the amp working first. Also the horn driver is missing. Got one? Apparently thats where the mice got in the cabinet to build a nest amidst the matting inside!!

I will need to verify, but I have a set (or two) of Cabinet mounted mid-range/tweeter horns that the drivers are Gold (University Sound), or pale blue marked Kaman. Again .. I need to verify this when I get home. I also have a 4 pieces set of "NIB" 12 woofers for one of the Kaman speaker/amp cabinets. The box had some marking, I can try to dig out. Most of the 15" woofers I've seen were JBL D130's or slightly modified versions of that speaker. Edited by TJR 2012-05-25 11:26 AM

Also consider how many manufacturers used an aluminum castings for the magnet cover, a rather pricey piece of metal that is more cosmetic than functional seems to point to a brand above the usual stamped steel frames and open magnets of other common speaker brands. Some thoughts Gary

Joined: December 2001 Posts: 10583 Location: NJ | eventually altec purchased University sound. they also made drivers etc for them. University had mics that were made by shure and branded university as well as altec. at that time university built a ton of outside enclosures altec built indoor theater stuff and it was not uncommon for these companies to offer products with their own brand built by other companies. for example I have an atlas studio mic stand branded with an RCA meatball and s/n I am sure an RCA geek would pay big $$$ for it but to me it is a stand in my studio. the drivers were probably made by university the speakers I believe are cts

I'll starting working on the amp to see if its workable. The good thing it was dry. Once speaker is all there and should test out ok. The other will have to be replaced. I may be looking for a Audient 100 12" speaker and a horn driver at some point but once the amp and head are working, I can deal with the rest. It would be a nice amp for my 86 Ovation Collectors shallow bowl especially with the horn to drive the highs!!

(or had, the larger dual JBL 15" woofers were sold a while back. ) https://picasaweb.google.com/104209077305164586938/OvationAmpsMisc?a... The Large horns are "Cobraflex" horns by University Sound. Maybe some of this info will help figure something out. TJR
