| Finally picked up my first Ovation-ish guitar today! It's an old applause AA14-7 made in Connecticut, with a serial# 086476. I traded a pair of EMG Select humbuckers for it! Not a bad deal, as I needed an acoustic, because I sold an Epi I had to get through the holiday season. It needs a soundhole rosette, pickguard, and the neck is just slightly raised right at the 15th fret, but Im not playing it there anyways so it doesn't matter! The checking on the front is wonderful. Anyways, I was curious as to what year this is from? The gentleman I got it from told me '79 but I always like to make sure, and couldn't come up with much from a serial number search. Always dug the Ovation sound, as my late stepbrother used to own a few, and this one sounds very nice! Thanks for any info anybody can provide, and look forward to chatting here!

The gentleman saying '79 may mean that's when he bought it. Additionally the timeline discussed in this article supports the information you have as well.... +/- a year or two. http://www.ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=32...

Unless you're rich and own an Adamas, then it's called a 'snot blob'.

| Thanks guys! The only reason I even want to put a pickguard on there is to cover up the remnants of the one that USED to be there. Same with the soundhole rosette. Got all the glue off, but it kind of looks...blah, I dont know. Ill have some pics up soon. Restrung it and it sounds very good! |
