I have seen this model referred to as a Legend and a Balladeer. Might have been one-year-only (1982) and might have been first cutaway?

Anyone know anything more? Played one the other day and wow, it sounded fantastic.

Nothing I could find on Ovation Guitars website and for some reason search function here didn't turn up anything, either. Maybe I'm not doing it right, but I type "1667" in and hit search and nothing comes up.

Yet Google search of Ovation 1667 notes several mentions on this forum (none with much info tho)

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

If I'm right, it's a Legend deep bowl cutaway model produced from 1982 to 1984 with the 2 concentric knobs pre-amp before to be rename as 1767 in mid 1984 when she was equipped with the OP-24.
It still available in catalogs till the end of 1984 before to be discontinued in 1985 and definitively replaced by the 1767.
I've seen one recently for sale in Japan equipped with the 2 wood knobs pre-amp like on Adamas or 1537 models; maybe an early model or a prototype??

I'll bet the one with the 2 knobber was a modified guitar from the original stacked knob....

I have a 1567 Legend, SSB cutaway stacked knob at the waist configuration, produced only in 1984. Not that it helps much with the original question. Excellent rehearsal guitar, absolutely hate the waist location for stacked knobs.

You're surely right Paul even if no sign of modification was visible on the side of the guitar.

I should have download the pics for keeping on my hard disk...

A nice and very Ltd series of the 1667 was produced for French market to celebrate the 10th anniversary of CAMAC (the french distributor for Ovation from the mid 70's untill Fender bought KMC...)

I've owned a 1667. It is NOT a Balladeer, it's a Legend and there is relatively little info on them (much of it incorrect) becaue they were only made for a short while.

You can see more info here, along with pictures.

WTH is a 1667?

I ended up visiting with MWoody one day and he took his dremel to it. I replaced the stacked preamp with an Op50. Eventually I bought an Al DiMeola Custom Legend and sold this one. I have to say, even with the Custom Legend, I regret that sale. It was one of the best PLAYING O's I've ever had. SUPER low action without buzz issues. With the new electronics it quickly became my go-to gigger at the time. And it was sexy too!

It ended up with Alison, then on to another loving home I think.

*edit* It was also my first -5 (black finish). Most all mine are black now, 2080, 1581, 2078LX, 1769 Al Di Meola CL

I bought one new in '83 and along with my Pacemaker 1615, it was my stage guitar for 7 years until I was selected a "Keyman" and switched to Elites...I loved this guitar (a -4 deep bodied Legend Cutaway w/waist mounted Stacked FET 2 pre-amp)...great sound and playaility...one of the few that I wished later that I had not sold.

I knew you guys would come through. The truth IS out there . . .

Ended up buying this one (sunburst finish) from GC at their St. Paddy's sale for $399, with HSC. They put a set of Elixirs on it for me and wow, just can't believe how nice this guitar sounds. I'm not really sure they knew what they were selling on this one, since I've seen them on eBay and so on for $500-$600. The first guy I talked to there said, "These Celebrities are nice guitars." Uh, yeah. Second guy seemed to know more what he was talking about, but I think if there had been the word "Legend" anywhere in the label or online (where they usually look to determine relative value when you trade stuff in), I think the price would have been higher.

Thanks again!

Congrats! I saw that one and was tempted. Good thing for you I have no guitar funds at the moment.
