Hi, All:

I recently had a luthier adjust the setup on an Ovation. He did a great job of making the guitar easier to play, and there is no fret buzz. The only thing I don’t particularly like is a loss of volume and punch from the bass E string. The strings are not abnormally low and seem to be set properly to the radius of the fret board. The saddle is a standard Ovation thinline, and I am using light gauge strings. I would like some input before I go back to him to see what he can do.

Thanks,
Daniel

You should ask him exactly what he did during set up. Chances are he just removed a shim or two, which shouldn't affect anything. It's possible that he made a new nut, and it's weird how an incorrect groove can affect sound volume, but it can. Until he describes everything he did and you relate it to the forum, it would be hard for some of these wise men here to ascertain the problem.
