I know the pick up is ok as when on full treble I get all the strings sounding. My question is may be after a major accident or upgading your preamp has anyone got an old style stacked tone / volume control lying around please I'll gladly pay up if cheap enough. May be £25.00 (more or less ?) let me know i' m also happy to make a donation from my end of the transaction. I keep meaning to try and fix it but when I pick it up I start playing it and wham ! 3 hours later its too late to start the job....... She's a great old girl ! Finally anyone know how to cure an old case that won't shut - well it does if I sit on it ! Thanks guys Harry

Would you think me too cheeky if I said can I keep you in mind but hold out for a short while and see if a stereo one with the stacked controls comes along to keep it original ? You really are so kind and I am very grateful. The history of my guitar is that when I was 21 in 1981 I bought a custom balladeer but in the shop they had a legend 12 string but I couldn't afford it. Just before my 50th birthday my local shop had a sunburst 1982 12 String legend in (model 1656) the family all put together to buy it for my 50th birthday, it's cleaned up great, although the top is so "settled" you can see the the brace pattern in the right light the bridge is still sitting square and flat and it just plays and sounds fantastic.

What you're describing is exactly what happens if you plug a regular cord into a stereo jack. The mono output uses a regular cord. The stereo output requires a special "Y" cord (It's an insert cable), then you have to plug into two amps. Just checking. There may not be anything wrong with your preamp. So on full treble using the mono socket I get all strings through the amp as I bring in the bass it gradually takes out every other string. I think the stereo models had sort of 2 preamps that sort of run together in mono mode in my case the tone circuit on one of them is killing the output ....... I guess ! All the best Harry PS like the Q & A I stole my signature from an English folk hero and rag / blues player Ralph Mc Tell.
