Location: Fort Worth, TX | Year ago I was told this trick by a luthier. He said since most people have their tv on all day, he suggested sitting guitar on a stand in front of the speaker to keep the top vibrating. It sounds plausible to me. What do you think? |

Location: Texas | My dad kept the tv on all the time and he would have said "get that damn thing out from in front of the TV...I'm getting tired of looking around it". And then I would explain to him why it needed to be there and then....the all too familiar dad look....

I think people who have their TV's on all day don't play much guitar unless it's connected to a Wii. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | We don't listen to music on a computer, like most people seem to these days. Our stereo (not a home entertainment center) probably gets more use than our TV. I could put a couple guitars in front of the speakers, but the guitars are already in the same room where I'm either playing guitar, listening to music or watching TV anyway, so I think I'm covered. I wonder if they will open up to the sounds of a football game. |

Location: Whitecourt, Ab | I believe opening up a guitar top via tv speakers may lead to a commercial sound. More of a bass sound is required such as near the commode after a chili night, then take it out and play the crap out of it!

Location: Fort Worth, TX | G8r... that first article you posted is fascinating, I think everyone should read it. What a concept, and the results are documented in a scientifically controlled way. Kind of proves the tip the luthier gave me - although I have yet to do it. My 40th anniv. Balladeer mic'd is already one of the best sounding guitars I've come across. Another aging thing I used to do with my Martin 150th anniv Custom was to lay it in sunshine pouring thru a window to age the top to an amber hue. It took a few years, but the change was highly visible. Wish I had one of those "shakers"... sounds like a great sideline business. |

Location: Fort Worth, TX | Canterbury... I realize laying a guitar in direct sunlight is a recipe for superheating. It was always in an airconditioned room with a fan on it. It took diligent effort over a long time but it did produce a nice, even amber hue. Thinking of doing the same to the 40th anniv Balladeer. |

During these winter months, when the sun is rarely available, you might try a tanning bed. First couple of times, I wouldn't go over 6 minutes. |
