Location: Delaware | Does the type of string (bronze, phos/bronze, nickle, etc.) have an effect on the amplified sound of an O, or any git. The saddle pickup just transfers the vibrations of the strings doesn't it ? Curious how much the metallic makeup has to do with plugged in sound/tone ? Any thoughts / info appreciated. |

Since THE authority on this subject (Temp) is probably boozin' it up with Cliff right now, I'll take a stab at it. You're right about the saddle just transferring vibrations to the peizos, which then discharge the electrical impulses. My guess is that the string composition wouldn't have any effect on this, especially since the nylon string guitars use the same pickups as the steel stringers. It's not like an electric guitar where you have induction generating the electrical output from the pups. On the other hand, electric git strings are much thinner than what you'd put on an acoustic, and probably wouldn't have the volume or sustain.

Plus the body style, depth and where you pick/strum the strings affect the tone and harmonics. Using the electronics will allow adjustment to the resulting waveforms. Then toss in the amp you're using and it's settings.
So the possibilities are nearly endless. Ergo the search for the individual 'holy grail'. This alone drives the guitar/strings/amp/etc. industry.
This topic can go on forever with no one answer. That's just my  .

Location: Delaware | The reason I ask is I had D'ad 12-53 bronze on my 1717, got it dialed in and sounding great on a bose pas, changed strings to check out Adamas 1818e phos/bronze, same settings on O and pas but I it seems to sound different. Maybe it's me. Maybe I need a (another) drink ! |

| Interesting experiment. I've never noticed that, but then again I mostly play unplugged (or mic'ed for recording).

That's why a nylon string guitar sounds different than a steel string....
within same string types it's a matter of lesser degrees and gauge etc... |

Location: NJ | If you're changing-out strings that've been "broken-in" with BRAND new (esp. PhosBrnz.) they're gonna' sound VERY brite/brassy til they get "settled-in". |

Location: Scotland | Any tonal difference between bronze and Phos bronze once they've settled-in is pretty subtle, amplified or not. The difference between bronze alloys and nickel is huge, amplified or not. |
