I am trying to teach myself mandolin. I bought a nice Eastman Mando and have benn working at it sporadically for about a year. The neck is so darn small. Do ovation mandolins have wider necks?
God bless,
Steve

What are the neck dimensions on your Eastman?

There are wide neck models available but the difference is typically 1/8" or so. Not sure if it would be worth the extra money.

Nutwidth on ovations is 1-3/16.

That's pretty standard. Most mandos are 1-1/8 or 1-3/16

The nut width is 1 3/32. However the width of the strings at the nut is just under 1 inch. How does the string width at the nut compare with the ovation? Thanks for all the help.
God bless,
Steve

I measured two mandos:

Ovation, nut width 1.190 inch, string spacing 1.009 inch

Collings, nut width 1.155 inch, string spacing 0.980 inch

Thanks, I guess they are all about the same. I will just have to soldier on.
God bless,
