-My 1861 Balladeer LX, I take it it is a super shallow?
Did they make this model in mid-depth? The reason I ask is the websites that sell'em say their mid-depth, Ovation site says they are super shallow.
Another question.
The more I play this guitar, the more little wood shavings appear on the bottom of the bowl. Is this just due to construction and playing it knocks off what they didn't sand?
One more question, my sound-hole is paint very sloppy. Half of the rim inside isn't even painted.
The black ring, well, part of it is poorly painted as well and the little inlays.
haha that was three questions. Sorry. Have no one else to ask and you guys know more about Ovations than I do!! |

Are you playing with a pick? If so, are you banging away hard enough for your pick to be hitting the wood at the edge of the soundhole? That could account for the "shavings". |

Location: Pennsylvania | Not hitting the soundhole, it's the neck side of the soundhole that looks like someone made this top on a friday and started it at 4:30pm with a 5'o clock end of shift. |

Location: Pennsylvania | ok ok, a friday rushed top then!! You know I am alluding to the old adage that you shouldn't buy a car made on a friday. Anyway, I just learned that you can take a shim or two out on your own, perhaps that'll lower that action.
B) I think I chaulked it up to the fact that I am used to machine made everything.
C) I like the super shallow bowl, and unless someone wants to sell me a 6868LX, I am keeping this one.

the 54th state, South Korea. Come to think of it ... Korean-made guitars are actually well made, and a good buy for the money. I owned many guitars made in Korea for many years, before I acquired my first U.S. made Ovation.
Though I never looked back since purchasing my first American-made guitar, I will go for the record that the Korean guitars that I used to own never disappointed me.
Guitars made in China, however were either hit or miss back in the day. But I heard that they're not the garbage that they used to be in the here and now ...
Yes, the 1861 is a shallow bowl ... I used to own one. Just not an lx version, and the neck came with the kaman bar, making it virtually unwarpable. :) |
