Location: Chariton County, Missouri | Hello, first post here. I have an Ovation 1117-1 that I purchased around 1975 or 76. Now playing in a little country band here with some other geezers and and having a ball. Mostly electric but we want to move on to some more acoustic type stuff, I would like to put a sound hole type pickup on it but haven't a clue what would work best with the old girl. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Just miking it is not out of the question either. |

Unfortunately,I have never used a soundhole pick-up so I have no clue what to tell you. You may want to go up to "search" and key in "soundhole pickup" I'm sure someone has brought this subject up before. |

Location: Scotland | I was a big fan of the Sunrise and used one for years, but it's an old design and showing it's age compared to the latest stuff. It's also very bulky and pretty pricey for what it is, especially if you use the Sunrise preamp/DI too.
I use the Baggs M1 Active in my Weissenborn and an M1 Passive an old Legend set up for slide. The other really good ones are the Seymour Duncan Mag-mic and the Dean Markley Trilogy. The Fishman Rare Earth is good too, but I don't like that it doesn't have adjustable poles. I beleive it's best to have a magnetic pickup that has adjustable pole-pieces, that way you can tweak the string balance. Also, I always use nickel strings with soundhole pickups. |
