Thanks to some requests, I recorded the Guy Clark song "The Guitar" this afternoon...
It's on my page on the ning site (link below)...
It will automatically start when you view the page...but be sure and turn up the volume on the player and your speakers to hear it best...
I had a lot of fun with this; and its not perfect....I'll go later and punch in and out a couple of spots but for the most part, I'm happy...

I recorded the vocals and rhythm guitar at the same time with different mic's: Guitar: (Martin Om-28V) w/Blue Baby Bottle and Vocals w/Sputnik tube mic by M-Audio...
The lead guitar track was added next again using the Martin OM-28V...Since I am just getting my Mac Stuff up and not quite running yet, I used my BOSS BR-1600 Digital Recording Studio and mastered it and sent it to the computer in a .WAV format and then converted it to an mp3 for uploading to the site...hope you like it!
Anyone who wishes to have a copy can copy it from my page or email me and I'll send an mp3...
Thanks again for listening!

MM,

Absolutely great! I was blown away by that song when I saw Guy do it last week. What a great song.

Now I am again blown away by how quickly you learned it and how well you nailed your first recording of it. Really excellent!!! (and I don't use extra exclamation points very often…) ;)

I love your version. Thanks for posting it…

Now, why haven't you gotten that Mac setup running yet? ;)

Wow, thanks folks, glad you liked it...it's been a long time since a song has grabbed hold of me like this one...I don't know...it's hard to explain...I learn songs for Sundays in sort of the same way...I've been playing long enough to have a second sense of how the guitar goes, and the rest just comes naturally...guess its a gift...and I don't say that lightly at all...

Playing lead on an acoustic guitar w/medium strings was a real challange...thats the first time I tried that...couldn't get them to bend very easily...

AS to why I have't gotten the Mac studio running yet, I just finished Friday the last of three UM required seminary courses: the final three...even though I graduated last year, I had three courses to finish for the church...the last of those was UM Polity...it was a directed study and the exam was 28 essay questions: 11 pages single space typed...and I got a B...I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted...now for some time to learn the in's and outs of Logic Pro...I have two complete courses that will last about a week each to teach me...after that I should be on my way...stay tuned...lol

BTW, Stephen, the Mic's work great! Thanks again...

That song grabbed me too, but if I grabbed it back I'd probably strangle it… we'll stick with your version… ;)

Great production and feel, Mike. My only complaint is that you did not let the listener in on the fact that the Guitar in question was an Adamas!

a joke: In the lyrics you could add something about how it had a round back, slot-head. "Never seen NUTHIN like that before...!"

Of course your name on the case is pretty good as it is!

Beautiful job. Guy Clark's one of my favorite songwriters, and you did this song justice. The beauty of the recorded OM28V really makes me miss mine.
