I been using them on my EA68 Viper. I like them. But that's basically always plugged in. I've never tried them for straight acoustic purposes.

The Zebras were designed for a pretty specific purpose. They have alternate windings of nickel and phosphor bronze, the purpose of which is to provide the tone of a bronze alloy string that will also work well with a magnetic pickup. I've been using them on my Weissenborn which has a Baggs M1 active soundhole pickup. Plugged-in the output of the pickup is down very slightly compared to the nickels I was using. Acoustic tone improved noticibly compared to the nickels. Haven't compared them to regular phosphor bronze, but I guess they'll be somewhere between the two, brighter and ringier than nickel strings, but not as bright and ringy as bronze.

My daughter's evil boyfriend has a real POS acoustic guitar with a single coil pickup at the end of the neck. With regular acoustic strings it sounded even worse plugged in than it did acoutically, if that were possible. Zebras made it sound only half bad plugged in.

I'd say that for the acoustic guitar with a magnetic pickup it would be worth a try. For pure acoustic tone I wouldn't bother.

I've used them on guitars with both mag and piezo pickups, which is what they are really designed for. Paul T said it well. I found that they worked well for switching to mag for chords or picking, but they didn't sustain well for lead electric playing with held notes. I liked them for what they were.
