I'm working on an O with an acoustic-only bridge. I've installed a B-Band under-saddle pickup...about the thickness of a pc of paper. I needed a shim to add to the original saddle height, so I cut an 1/8" pc of credit card for that purpose. Here's my question: do I put the shim UNDER the pickup, or ON TOP of it? I can't quite get my head around the answer. Do I want a pc of plastic between the pickup and the Tusq saddle? Do I want the pickup and saddle resting on top of that pc of plastic?

What would you do?

If the bottom of the saddle is good and flat, and the shim width does not cause it to be a tight fit in the saddle slot, I would think that on top of the pick-up should be fine. (but what do I know?)
You could always do trial and error...
Or wait for the Real BFLG to answer. :p

You glue the shim to the bottom of the saddle and then make sure it's all square.

I wouldn't glue it. Changes in humidity might cause you to want to remove it at some time. But it should go directly under the saddle. The pressure of the strings will assure a good fit.

That's true but I find that the shim material never sticks all that well anyway and to take it off just requires a little pop and off it comes. If it does stick you probably have a good line to sand it back down to should you want to do it.

Up to you, either one works.
