Location: NJ | YUP those that know me know what an event this is. I am usually too busy stringing guitars that are for sale than taking care of my own but the strangest thing happened.
My current gig guitar, (Adamas 1 -2 cutaway optima preamp and yes it is for sale) I have been using for the past 3 months or so. I string it up with a set of adamas 1818 strings which are my favorites.
AFter these few months of intensive use, the G string developed wear spots at the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11th frets. I have not had this happen to me since I was a kid playing my crappy made in holland acoustic.
has anyone else experience this? or am I just the one keeping the stings on my guitars too long?

i change strings in acoustics each 7-10 days if i play everyday, with exception of Elixir's which i change every 6 weeks.
only in electric guitars i keep strings as long as they don't have problems with intonation (about 2-3 months witd dean merkley blue steel's)
and yes, those acoustic strings have visible wear spots after few days. |

I play regularly every day but not the same guitar. I try my best to play all of them in a week and again....rotaion is the keyword.
I've never notice spot wear. I'll check and revert. |

Location: SoCal | I don't seem to go thru strings like I used to. Used to be with uncoated strings, I'd need to change them ever 1-2 weeks. Coated strings are a different story, for a different thread.
I've had a box of John Pearse strings for 12 string guitars and last fall put them on both the Adamas 12 and the GC 12. Haven't changed either one since and they still sound good. Either I don't sweat as much or I should be playing more.
On a side note, I've tried EXP's and seem to go thru them like I would an uncoated string in the past. There's a set that came back from the factory on my OFC slothead (ding!). I've been playing it for the last week and a half and the strings still sound great. I thought for certain I'd be changing them after a few days. Pleasant surprise..... |

Location: Jet City | Al, I get "the bumps" after about a month. I try to change 'em once a month, and the bumps are usually my timer.
If it's a guitar that's not being played as much, it might go longer.
LBJ, sound like we use the same strings for our electrics. I like the DM Blue Steel custom lights.
For the acoustics, I've recently moved to DM to. I like the Alchemy coated ones. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Used to be I would put on new strings that typically came with a "new" guitar. I loaned the 1537 to the Wabbit for a week and gave him a set of strings to put on it. That was a couple years ago. I need to do that more often. The rest, I can't keep track of. I keep playing the slotheads trying to get all the use out of the strings, because I dread changing them. The Folklore is especially difficult with the wide posts on the skinny strings.
The last couple peghead guitars I changed were my daughters'. This weekend I'm going to get a pack of 6 sets of D'Adds and start changing them all. I should finish in about the time for a friend to come visit in June. He is a Taylor fan and I don't want him playing Os and As with dead strings. |

Location: SoCal | I don't "enjoy" changing strings, but I don't mind changing them. It's an opportunity to go thru the guitar, oil the fingerboard, clean the top and neck, change the battery, and in general, get it in tip top shape... |

Location: Tychy, Poland | Damon67: i'm using Blue Steels regulars (10-46) on electric. At least on Katana. But i have also set of DT's (13-56) which i use when i want to record bass parts at home. Katana has so huge low-end, it's just unbeliveable. And to be honest - it's very disturbing when i want to play anything else than death/black/doom/industrial metal. |

At least all those black shirts were clean for a few minutes. Did anyone even take time to shower and shave or did they all just go straight through? |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Wear -spots show up easy on bass -strings of my classical , I have noticed that at times some brands rust quickly , no probs. with Thomastik - spectrum nor Martin 3000 - 4000 series though , but with SilkySteels from one brand ( courtesey forbids me to mention the name ) wear -spots showed up within 3 weeks , I am awaiting the arrival of a batch of CFM Silk`s...can hardly wait , I hope they live up to CFM standards.. :)

Location: Chehalis, Washington | That's exactly where I'm at. I don't mind changing strings, and I love the sound and feel of fresh ones, but I take the time to do the whole wax on/wax off deal, so I tend to put it off a bit.
That said, 20 to 30 hours tops is all I'll play a set for. After that, they just sound or feel dead, and I know that they're just waiting to snap as soon as I step on stage...
