We've had threads on Favorite strings, favorite capo, favorite finish so I thought it would be fun to see what type of guitar straps other members like. I've excluded brands because of the large number but tried to list the basic type of guitar strap.

I didn't vote because I don't (can't) use a strap. Got a problem with my neck, so I have to sit down to play.

+1 on the sitting... I don't have a physical problem, I just prefer playing seated.

But I often wear a strap, it makes it less likely that I will drop my guitar on the concrete.

I'm one of the "other." I prefer the thin 1" straps with the slightly padded shoulder pad, ala vintage Fender and Gretsch, and also with the OFC logo from Long Hollow.

I'm not as much into "material" as shape. I primarily use a Carvin Deluxe Guitar Strap. They have been about $15.00 for as long as I can remember. I like the shape. I have had other straps made to match it. I'll post a picture of my Tony Murga Custom strap later...

I'm using a NeckUp for sitting down playing. I put on a strap this weekend and my neck/back paid for it. Bob

Levi's and the OFC softies from Al.

Typically in the 2"-3" range.

Funny to be with Miles on this, but I'm an electric guy too, and I prefer Carvin straps as well. They're comfortable, don't bleed into your shirt, and they're cheap.

I've got several of the El Dorado straps, the old Fender style like Brad refered to. I also got a Murga Aligator that's pretty nice.

I got a mess o' straps, what I use depends on the git. The tele gets an old fender style. The CA gets 2" cotton with a hippie design. The MEWP gets a black leather 2.5" and the little electric papoose gets a 1" nylon.

I'm thinking about one of those Carvins for the tele. Problem is with my classic fender strap, the pad occasionally moves and then I get all the weight on my shoulder. Not a crisis though.

+1 on seated position. I like a strap to keep the Ovation from sliding (I don't like to hunch over the guitar).

Moody Leather ( http://www.moodyleather.com ) may make the finest leather strap out there. Expensive, but extemely high quality. I use the 2 1/2" leather w/ suede backing. I've got 4 of them for various guitars and they live on those particular guitars. Heck, I've got more invested in those 4 straps then I've had invested in some of my guitars.

And I love the name.....

Same experience here, so I figured out where the perfect position was (different models require different straps), punched two holes through the pad and strap in an inconspicuous location, then sewed the pad directly to the strap (on the newer straps, not the vintage stuff). Problem fixed.
